Bright Head lights with Xenon bulbs

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Bright Head lights with Xenon bulbs

Post by Big Brother » Mon May 09, 2005 10:08 pm

Had them for a couple of weeks but only just got round to taking a picture. I now have super bright Xenon bulbs in place of the crappy yellowy white bulbs that where there before. It has defiantly improved my field of vision and they look cool too, just like the new Merc of BMW head lights. Got them from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk just typed in the car make, model and year and it told me what bulbs I wanted, only £11.99 a pair, bargain.

Will be the fogs and the day runners next

Yeah, think thats the first thing i did after getting my car. Cant remember if the ones i bought were road legal or not but they're not blinding or anything. Made a massive difference. And still havent blown since i bought them a couple of years ago...

Just did the same this weekend!

Xenon blue H4 for the pop-ups
"All-weather" filtered H3 for the fogs
and 100W Xenon H3 the auxillary lights for "off-road use only"

The white/blue light is so much nicer for night-time driving and the extra kick in the auxillaries is handy (re-adjusted the throw too, coz before they were pointing at the same place as the dipped beams?!) on the twisty country lanes (have to remember to switch them off though!)
All weather fogs are nice come winter.

Ace, that saves me looking in the manual for the type of bulbs  I hope the wiring is up to running the auxilary lights at 100w a side...

Does anyone make the day running lights in the Xenon sort?

I'm glad my anal retentiveness came to the aid of some one :)

The back of the packet claims the bulbs are suitable for a straight swap from standard bulbs - no blurb anywhere about melting cables etc... /so/ I've kept the reciept - if they short out I shall be on the phone to the complaints department rapidly :)

The day running lights aren't halogen to start with - just ordinary filament bulbs. I haven't seen anywhere that manufactures upgrades for these lights - but a blue tint on the glass would push out a much whiter light

i've got increased bulbs also, however i've noticed that when the 480 is fully lit up the power (electrical that is) seems reduced. is this normal? Will post pics of my uprated headlights later tonight hopefully!

I doubt your headlights would go up and down afterwards....

I have 80/100W headlamp bulbs, bben in since October time, have done a LOT of night driving, probably more than half on average, and haven't melted anything yet, but i'm still not totally ruling out the posibiltiy that at some point i may have to replace half the wiring!!
