White blinkers?? And picture request.. And interior pics

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Hi Kemo,

Welcom and congratulations for your decision to fix the 480 and treat her better :D

The clear front indicators can be bought from Volvo. They are expensive, but they're also quite hard to find 2nd hand in good condition and for a fair price. Especially when you have to pay P&P you might as well go for a set of new ones from Volvo! Don't know the price, believe it was something like 60 Euros per side...

What interior is in your car? Being from 1987 I suspect grey cloth with red striping. When I had a 1987 ES I hated that interior because it had holes in it, but these days when I see a 480 that has this interior in good condition I think it looks very cool and retro again :D I can't speak for everyone, but be careful not to start messing with auto-styling products inside (or outside...). They look OK on the interior of a Astra or Golf, but I always find them cheapening down the interior of a 480. What exactly is the problem with the interior?

Also be very careful about painting the bumpers. They have to be pre-treated with special plastic-primer because the bumper slightly streches when in the sun. This means that after one summer your bumper will look terrible with paint coming loose... What colour is your car? You might want to get a set of painted bumpers, perhaps in a different color and paint those.

Good luck :D

If you really want to treat your 480 in a good way, I would first spent my money on getting her in great technical condition. Ones that is done I would fight all the rust I could find, and really be careful with the rear arches (they're rust magnets)...

After that I would get a second hand interior somewhere, or at least the parts that look bad, like a new drivers seat etc. A new set of (Volvo) floor mats also does magic.

I myself am not a big fan of changing too much to a 480, but that's just me. In my opinion *bling* *bling* is something that is more suitable on a Astra, Golf, Civic or CRX instead of on a 480... You won't find these styling products on an expensive Merc or BMW either.

About the mats, make sure they fit properly, the LHD 480 has some sort of shoulder on the drivers side where you can put your left foot. A mat that doesn't fit properly will go bad in a few months...

Good luck! And don't let my opinion stop you :)

The clear indicators are £35 UK pounds each from volvo, I don't know what that translates to in euros but 60 each sounds a tad high to me?
Anyway, I thought that was fairly cheap, at least compared to the rear ones, and i would recommend just getting new ones, they will look much better.

Your bumpers, coyote is right, it will look hideous after the summer if you paint the ones you have, if you can find a turbo car the same colour, that will have colour keyed bumpers.

Subtle little things is the way forwards with these cars
Subtle little things over a long time will have her looking so stupidly sweet that everyone who sits in your car will be impressed.

To start - fix up the cloth interior with some replacements from another 480 (or get them re-trimmed/covered). The rear seats won't be able to be replaced by Sparco, etc, and often such replacement seats for 3door cars make getting into the back a nightmare. The seats from Volvo are an absolute gem - I really recommend you keep them (+ they heat your arse up in the winter!)

Next is to do up the interior lighting. I've got a mix of blue and white super-bright LEDs which have replaced the over head lights to give a slight blue tinge to things. Make sure all dash and instrument lights are working - fit floor lights (can be seen in the FAQ on the club site) - she now looks crispy in the dark!

Clear indicators look gorgeous - fit the mirror-effect indicator lenses to remove the Egg-yolk effect and you;ll be happy with the beauty!

A 10" or 12" sub fits nicely in the boot - if you move the spare - you suddenly have a very nice cubby hole for one - - but then you've got to find somewhere to keep the spare... :)

The possibilities are endless my friend - but subtle is my word of the day :)

35/2 x3 = 52,50, so that 60 euro aint that much more than the 35 punds ;)
