de-badging

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

de-badging

Post by Steve-o » Mon Jan 03, 2005 2:00 pm

Fancying taking the 'volvo' sign from the front. I here a hairdryer will do the trick on other cars, but do i need anything in paticular to help get it off the 480 so i dont wreck the paintwork?

Cheers

A thin plastic scraper. Or the world famous Chris1roll sharpened spatula is always handy for removing plasticy goop from the paintwork. Carb cleaner is also helpfull.

Try not to get the carb cleaner and hairdrier too close together. You don't want to set it on fire!

Tesco value club card, is my personal debadging weapon, plus it rids your wallet of one more bit of plastic junk.

Fishing-line and a hairdryer are the combination you're after, should work like a charm.

Question is why debadge? I think it's a shame when people remove the Volvo badge, especially at the front and it is small as it is...

I just dont think the front badge does the car any justice. It looks better i think with just the back badge on. (That way the boy racer tossers looking in their mirrors wont know whats hit em till its too late and they're cleaning RON95 outta their crappy induction kit :kill: !!)

I think the back badges should stay on, especially if its a turbo.

Need to show its a 480 still.

Well, i think it looks good with the rear ones off:

That way they're still wondering what it was when they are cleaning RON 98 out of their induction kit!
As fot the sharpened spatula/hot air paint stripper at a distance, that has to be one of the most bizarre evenings we spent out the workshop.

mines debadged apart from the club sticker

traffic wardens write out the ticket as just reg number or if they catch a look at the small indicator repeater just as volvo and reg number

looks good debadged even more so for a turbo keep the light hidden
(under the bushel if ya know what i mean)
There's a bit of 480 in all of us

mmmmmm, had many a ponderous thought over this debate. Wasn't convinced about the back being debadged at first, but the tide is turning. I cant help but think that the only colour it will look good with is black, as it continues the theme up from the smoked lights. Mine is red however, and i may just have to leave the back ones on for a short while untill i make my mind up.

Yalls black ones look good by the way, not sure it will wash with my red one though.

I don't have a 480 ES, or a 480 Turbo....i have a 480....a celebration!?

The turbo went when new to make it less thievable, so i don't have any of the three turbo badges. Most ppl can't remove the side ones as it fades an outline over time.

i have the front one tho, and the grille and "volvo 480" on the back.

On another note i discovered a song "Good to Me" by Brendan Benson features the lyrics

I’ve got a 1980 Volvo
I get in start it up and I go
It ain’t a vintage Cadillac
But it always gets me there and back
And it’ll always be good to me
Always be good to me
Always be…good to me

Hiya!

Thought about re-badging mine using the newer style Volvo font recently. This is why I was posting about the truck badging,as they make a 460 hp,so was hoping they may make a 480 hp (yeah, right!!!) and that could have done as the tailgate r/h badge, smaller too!

So far,its going to be V40 rear badge to replace std one, undecided ;) on what to replace the 480 turbo one with!As for the nosecone,V40 rear there.Im hoping the DTurbo badge from a 307 Hdi with the d shaved off will look nice and subtle on the b-posts.All trial and error innit?

:D

I dont like the front badges either. So took mine off. I found even after cleaning all the goo off underneath, in certain times of the day with condensation etc, the 'volvo' would still show up. So a bit of polish was needed.

Post by Brasco » Tue Jan 18, 2005 12:04 pm

I had to de-badge the front of mine.... I reckon it just looks wrong with it there.
