Climair Wind Deflectors Still Available

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Climair Wind Deflectors Still Available

Post by jamescarruthers » Wed Aug 06, 2014 12:29 pm

I've just ordered a set of these for my 480 as they made driving with the window open on my BX much more pleasant.

If anyone is interested, the link is here:

http://www.climairuk.com/product.php?pr ... t=0&page=1

They were very good and initially thought they were out of stock but have found the molds in Germany and are making a new set for me! I thought this was very decent and should pass it on here that the wind deflectors are still available.

I'll post some pictures of them installed on my car once they arrive in 3-4 weeks time.

They just slot in the upper window channel and maybe the forward one on the 480.

They just flex enough to fit in spring back to shape and stay there.

There's a generic video on YouTube about fitting them. Probably just search Climair.

If they are like any others they should be insanely to fit....

you just push them up into the window seal, then push the little clips under with them then when you first put the window down the clips open up then after that each time you put the window up the clip goes either side of the glass :) Hard to explain but insanely easy concept.

I will be ordering some! :D

WAIT! Don't get them mate they are so utterly shit it's untrue.

I have had Climair's on my BX's and they were brilliant and easy to fit (no clips, just scary bending into the frame then leave shut for a day or so!).

The 480 is also very easy to fit, HOWEVER, the window channel is too thin for both the window and the wind deflector.

I found that the window struggled like hell to move and would not shut. It eventually overstressed my window winder mechanism and it snapped. They now live in the boot while I consider whether to clip them on somehow, but I don't think it will be safe.

I am disappointed as Climair deflectors that I've had in the past, work very well to keep the car cool and fairly noise free in the summer.

This has made my evening in the sense that I was just about to search out this thread to order some, and what do you know it's been dug up for me lol.
But now I'm questioning weather to bother with them. It's like I want them but I've been warned, but they're there. But.. But...
I just don't know, my windows aren't the fastest guns in the west as it is and I'm already worried about them before adding these :?

Yes, they look cool-as.

On the other hand, they will break your windows.

If I get time I'll post some pics of them installed. It only takes a minute to put them in.

Hmmm. Think i'll still order some.
When cruising the countryside i usually have the windows down so if they are an easy fit and refit i'll just fit them when i go cruising. Transversly in the depths of winter when my windows remian firmly closed i could leave them in and reap the tiny fuel saving

Hang on before you order, I can probably bear to part with mine as they just rattle around on top of the load cover.

That's odd, as less than a year ago they said they'd be happy to make a set as they keep all the dies in Germany. In fact, I can't fault their attitude and customer service.

Do you contact Climair direct and not some on-line shop that might just re-sell them?

Just been on the Climair link and the deflectors have been taken down and the product listed as unavailable. (wasn't a couple of weeks ago when I was about to buy some)
The cheapest of the other 2 mentioned above is the STX Styling one's. I received a website certificate warning when I added them to my basket and with them not accepting Paypal, only cards. I decided not to risk it.
Brought the one's on Amazon as they are actually cheaper coz they come with free postage whereas the STX one's is £10 p+p making them more expensive.
When the Farad one's arrive I will test them and report back.

Right ok so The Farad wind deflectors arrived the other day and I've fitted them today.
For anyone that doesn't know Farad is an Italian company.

The Contents of the box is as follows:
Image
Obviously the 2 wind deflectors, an instruction sheet, 8 metal securing/seal wideners, an applicator and interestingly 2 clear reverse printed Volvo stickers.

Fitting is pretty straight forward. Fit the deflector into the seal with the window down. Use the applicator to insert the securing clips (4 each side). And hey presto.

Then just test that the windows go up and down correctly. This is the real test and what brings the fear as mentioned previous. On the first up movement the windows didn't quite close all the way. I gripped the windows either side and pulled it closed fully. After this first time the windows started to behave like normal (for a 480)
A little strain right at the very end of the close is all that results.

I then applied the little Volvo stickers. No placement guide so I went with aesthetic choice.
Image
Sorry light kind of bleached it out lol.

And now a couple of obligatory Sexy 480 pics ;)

Quick update.
After just over a week of the deflectors being installed and the windows are behaving like normal. (i.e like they were before)
