cd changer

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

I have seen this and wanted to know if it's hard to install in my 93 turbo.

I think it won't be such a problem, I guess the 1993 480 already have an ISO-connector behind the radio so it should be a simple swap (anyone with a 1993 who can confirm this?).

Biggest problem in the 480 is: where do you leave the chager-unit. I have it under the drivers chair, does mean I cannot lower the chair by much...

But how the hell do I wire it into the car so it goes to the cd changer?

In my 480 I have managed to get the wiring from the back of the radio downwards through the center console. It comes out so to speak next to the pedals, but I have tightened it behind the edge of the bottom of the center console all the way back to the chair, and there it pops out and reaches my CD Changer...

Don't know 100% exact how it runs as I did it over 2 years ago, but it is running fine. I am tempted however to wire it further to the back and mount it against a side panel in the trunk. If you do place it under a front-chair (you need a height adjustable front chair, like the drivers chair is standard) I advise you to get an as slim as possible unit, for instance a unit for only 6 CD's...

Indeed it won't, unless you are enthusiastic about taknig a chainsaw and redo the dash in that area :D ;)

No, it's not that terrible, I had a little help from my brother while pulling the wire from the radio compartment down to the edge of the centre console. Can't remember how hard it really was, but we did it in only a few minutes...

Maybe... Just maybe, you could fit it in the centre console. But if you're not installing a Volvo Audio System, why not use an Mp3 player?

I have an Mp3 player in my car! Can hold up to 3000 files (10GB) But to be honest I rarely use the thing! Always taking the thing out putting it in my computer and uploading new files! And on top of that, there are so many songs on there that I can't find the songs I want to listen to anymore!
But its a VERY nice gadget to have in your car, looks very cool!! But I usually just use cd's!

I've got the same MP3 player as Ted (480R). I do use mine quite a lot though, and have had to upgrade the hard drive in it, as I ran out of space! (20GB now, but going down fast!)

(obviously, the second picture was taken before I installed it in the car! )

Ted chose to mount his main unit in the side of the center tunnel, which in retrospect, I think would probably have been a better place to put mine too. I didn't consider it at the time though, and didn't know about Ted's then either!

Yep, but if you had a turbo, you wouldn't have had the room in the tunnel because the computer is there! I had to place the extra computer the turbo has somewhere else when I put the turbo lump in my 1986 ES, because my mStation was in the way!

Funny though we placed the controller unit in exactly the same place!! ;)

... it just seemed to fit there so perfectly!

If you're interested, there's been a project started very recently (in the last month or so) to develop an open source firmware for the mStation. Take a peek over at http://www.ssiamerica/open. It's still in the Beta stage at the moment, but already it's a vast improvement over the original mStation software.

Hmmm I'll do that right now!
And yes, in my eyes it was the perfect place for the unit! Although I cannot really reach it without moving in my chair, but luckily there's the remote for the very lazy under us.... ;)

Just installed a JVC KD-SX998R(http://www.jvc.co.uk/product.php?id=KD- ... id=29&lid= MP3CD-player to the dashboard and a 2-way speaker set(DLS B5 http://www.dls.se/english/speakers/b5.htm) to the original mounting holes except for the dome-tweeters thatdidn't fit to the mountin holes :/

Well, the player looks good on the dashboard, the colors are good considering the other parts on dash. Tried to 'hide' the 2-way set and the original volvo grille fitted fine on them. (Just have to be carefull because of the thieves.) Only those tweeters show up  Well, the speaker set + player cost about 320 euros. And the sound is way better than with the original speakers. You _can hear_ the difference. :)

And those thieves here.. Well, my car is on a warm parking hall, right under my apartment actually. The hall has cameras everywhere, even one pointing straight at my car. That didn't stop the thieves going in to my roommates Saab 900 Turbo. Nicked the player in few seconds. Of course they didn't catch the thief, even with the video evidence! Though, police doesn't even care. Insurance isn't too good either, probably you'd get few euros from them..

I have a pioneer cd player up front that plays mp3 encoded cds as well as a 12 disk changer in the boot.

As your car is a 93 you should have an iso connection which in english means the jvc will plug straight in.

Where ben has his MP3 display is where i have my TV. Even in a turbo there is enough room to fit an MP3 player like the M station.

My car is very hard due to the Koni suspension and -40mm springs and i find it very hard to get my cd's to skip, even when dropping the big bass

If you want it buy it. And if you have any problem then bring it to the next meet and i will fit it for you FOC
