305 Black Metallic

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

305 Black Metallic

Post by Slash01 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 9:54 pm

Does anyone with experience of this colour know if under the shine of the sun the colour has a Purple tone to it.
Mine does and she came with a Scratch touch-up pot of Volvo 346 which I believe is Black Sapphire or Black Pearl and wasn't available on the 480.
I'm getting the car resprayed in April but am getting some spare's painted in the next few weeks and will have to buy the paint next week. I was going to buy some 305 Black metallic as that's what it says on the vin plate and I have no evidence of a respray in the history.
Am I right in thinking that 305 should have a purple tint or is it likely my car was resprayed in 346 Black Sapphire/Black Pearl?

I need a fairly certain answer soon as I'm supposed to buy the paint this Monday coming the 10th.

well today I decided to test a section with the 346 touch-up paint to see if it was a different colour to my car.
Well the results are that my car is likely to have been resprayed with 346 Black Sapphire/Pearl as some point as the colour matched.

scratch that 346 has more of a blue tone to it.
I've seen a V40 with a similar colour to my 480, though that was painted in 247 Mauve and it wasn't metallic just a solid colour.

It's probably best to update this thread for anyone reading it in the future with a similar issue.
There are 2 shades or 305 Black Mettalic.
A so-called base colour which has a lot of red tint in the mix, hence the purple tone in the sunlight.
The other shade has a lot of Blue tint in it, this would give a greyish tone as reported to me by other members with the same colour.
