HI,
Ive noticed a few products, mostly american, for buffing & restoring headlamps to get them clear rather than yellow. EG

Has anyone given something like this a go on the rear lights? If not I'll get one and let you know how I get on!

I'm currently in the middle of restoring rear cluster on my 480 which is totally f***** up . it's completely matt because of age. basically I'll be following process described on our FAQ page (
http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/volvo48 ... light_matt) just currently work progress is very slow because of another restoration project.
hope to post some pictures after I've finished.
as for the front plastic headlights - I've spoken to neighbours near my workshop who specialize in car lighting systems. basically such polishing last usually about 2 to 4 years. after that you repeat it again. for longer lasting effect you'll have to spray headlights with some protective coating. they use clear, UV resistant, 2 component varnish.
for the glass headlight it can be polished same way just they didn't recommend any coating after that.

In the end my lights had been glues in so I had o restore in place, I went with, mild sanding, plastic primer and then a black lens tinting spray, followed by mild cutting which looks pretty good, has certainly covered up the mini cracks / crazing
