wheel arch covers

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

wheel arch covers

Post by rhigga » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:35 pm

Hi everyone,

Today I bit the bullet and repaired a small bubble of rust which had returned on the rear wheel arch, about an inch and a half long.

The job turned out quite well and I took the opertunity to protect the entire inside of the arch with rust inhibiter, hammerite and finally spray wax.

My other volvo, the S40 has some nice protective plastic wheel arch protectors as standard and I though how great it would be if you could get something

similar for the 480. Then I spotted this add on Ebay.....

Any thoughts....the black ones look good but is it kosher.....

Hey,

Trims like this collects mud, water, etc. the arch will start to rust again much sooner, causing more damage, because you wont see. Just my 2 cp.

You see these often on old Mercs to hide rusty wheel arches and to indicate the social position of the driver.

a proper renovation of the arches with a good paint after, its the best choice imo.

I think (though I've only read not tried this) that the front wheel arch liners from the 440/460 fits with a little modification, then you would have similar spray protection to that which the front arches have.

It looks disgusting. I mean about the shitty chrome arch covers. Your hand will withered when you will use this to your car

How about some of these Ricer-style bolt-on wheel arches also often seen on Motorsport Porsches? You will have to cut your original arches a bit to use the extra room they provide, but with fitting wheels they can really look great. I still think about adding some if my Turbo ever becomes a rat-racer.

Get 'em repaired properly! Like these

It might cost a few £/€/$, but it'd be worth it.

Use polyester resin and glass mat. It's cheap and gives good effects.
