Turbo exhaust on 2 litre?

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Turbo exhaust on 2 litre?

Post by Rachel » Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:58 pm

Hello.

I would like to have my stainless steel exhaust put on my Celeb, but would it be ok? It was on my Turbo and has a slightly larger diameter (slightly larger than then standard also) than the one on the 2 litre.

Cheers.

You will also need the turbo downpipe and the turbo cat with gaskets. From the turbo catalysor on your stainless exhaust will fit. This will give you're B20F some hp extra.

Thank you very much for your reply.

It's a bugger though cause although I asked, the guys taking stuff off my old 480 didn't take off the down pipe....even though I asked them too.... I do have the cat though.

I guess I now have to source a downpipe then.

I take it the down pipe will fit straight on then??

Thanks again.

That s :cryhard: cks! But I'm sure James will have one laying about. But at least you have the cat, those can be pretty expencive!
I found the information I gave you on a german site elchteile which sells used 480 parts. It's only german I'm afraid. They also have this kit (umbausats) available to convert a B20F exhaust to a turbo. The parts I mentioned are all is needed according to them. So don't hold me responsable if it's incorrect

Thanks very much for that. I got turbo cat gaskets from volvo fairly recently so should still be able to get them. Downpipe and gaskets seem a small price to pay to have the ss system fitted knowing how much it cost me in the first place!!

Cheers.

The turbo down pipe is completly different from the N\A ones, dont forget it mounts to the turbo not the manifold! what you will need to do is remove the 2l downpipe (or even better aquire another) and cut the "cat" end off and weld on the end from a turbo downpipe. or the other but more costly if done wrong
option is to cut the downpipe end off the cat and weld on the 2l end for the cat (ensuring correct alignment).

Or take the stainless exhaust to where you bought it from and get them to modify the cat joint to suit the 2l cat. (probably the easier option)

First pic is a turbo downpipe, second is a 2l downpipe

Ah...only just seen these replies....I don't always get notifications it seems.

Thanks for the reply bkf_uk. That's helps me out loads.

I think I will get the guys who did it in the first place to modify the cat joint....sounds a much easier way of doing it.

Thanks again :D

Well the exhaust is going on tomorrow. They are going to join it on to the cat. They were slightly worried about the diameter if the turbo pipe which was alittle bit wider than standard, but they reckon it should be fine. If all goes well I'll post a piccie ;)

I'm now on plan c with this exhaust malarkey.....it seems the blowing is coming from buggered flexis on the down pipe. Dunno how long it's been like that but as the engine mount had been replaced at some point I think that maybe the damage was done when the old mount was allowing excess movement? Dunno really, but now basically I need a new/replacment downpipe with good flexis.

Off I go to ask Jim
