Reconditioning the roller cover
DISCLAIMER: Although my hands are pretty feminine, those are my wifes hands on the pictures. She did all the work here, I was just documenting the procedure. So if it looks crappy, it is her fault. (If it looks great I can take the credit)
First, I removed the other end of the roller cover by pushing the pin out of its socket
Then the I removed the cover - it isn't actually attached to the metal part, you can just slide it off.
The new fabric is black fake leather, should be good under stress and low temperatures. I used the same leather on the doorcards and there were some left over.
Then I teared open the cover to get out the cardboard part with metal frame. Now missus can take measures of the old cover
Then she took the measures:
And cutting action:
It's starting to look like a cover:
To be continued...

Let the glueing begin!
Some pressure on the seams after glueing
The center part
The other end was attached to the roller bar with a small enough electric cord and cotton string. The cord was sewed to the fabric and then it we fitted the cord through the side of the bar pictured below: (in other words, back to where it came out from)
Underside coming along
The textures almost match
Almost finished product; the long seam pushed the glue through the fake leather so I'll be adding a chrome/brushed aluminum profile on top of it. Maybe add the Volvo logo also that it is now missing

Now all you have to do is to retension the roller cover, because it has probably lost the tension after doing this procedure. Thanks to The Xile for this how-to manual: http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum/vi ... hp?t=17551

Thanks
I made this mod all by myself:
It hides the glue residue that popped up from the fabric. Its not ready though, a black stripe will be inserted to the currently blank area

I bought ordinary aluminium ledge(or flat aluminium profile, don't know what is correct translation) that is about 2mm thick and 20mm wide and cut it to correct lenght. Then I bought custom made 'Volvo' vinyl sticker from http://www.decalsplanet.com/category-44-volvo.html - it was 4" wide and I calculated the height of the sticker is under 20mm so it fits to the ledge.
Then I glued the ledge to the fabric and 'installed' the vinyl sticker. Easy peasy!
If someone knows a place that sells vinyl stickers cheaper than decalsplanet, please let me know too That sticker was 4.10$ + postage 6.99$ I only ordered one but the quality was good.
