Dare to be Different

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Dare to be Different

Post by 480-clone » Wed Oct 22, 2008 9:15 pm

Hi chaps, first post here so I wished to show you my 480.
Had a feeling to change colour - Yellow !
See what you think, please be kind.....
(Sorry, can't post a pic yet - bugger - if you want to see it feel free to email me)
Was a standard 1993 2.0 ES in 235 Red
Obvious Yellow but other than that all original aside the half leather interior and the Alpine unit c/w bluetooth.
Just completed work :
spray job
Front & rear discs and pads
New exhaust system
New alternator and starter motor
Full head de-coke and service
Bottom ball joint and anti roll bar link rods

Now just need to get my hands clean.....

As long as you don't say any of the following:

"Bodykit".

"Vents".

"Spoilers".

I can live with Tweety yellow :P.

I think I already saw this on a Volvo 480 facebook group?

Anyway, I actually really like it!! Some cars are just good pulling off those less common colours - and what I can say, the 480's one of them..

Hey would love to see some more pics, get some more posts under your belt and put up some links here. I hate yellow cars such as Puntos, Fiestas etc (the usual boy racer rubbish) but these cars are bulgy and bubbly. "Sleeker" and sportier cars pull it off, as said, the Esprit, and the 480 for sure! I really like it (tho petrol blue would be my first choice )

This was never on a tow truck in the Midlands area at any time was it???

Welcome to the club anyway! ;)

Hi again,

Thanks for the kindness - in answer to some questions.
On a flatbed in the WM - M42, no sorry. Maybe gutted that there is another in yellow, thought I was onto an original there - oh well.
It is indeed on facebook, opinions were divided amongst my friends and collegues about the car then the colour. It now seems to be a bit of an icon round where I live, get people waving and pointing. Facebook group Love it, Loathe it.
The car is all original apart from the colour, the half leather is from a later model I believe, it's the black 1/2 with dark inserts not the GT interior. No to the body kits, no spoilers (apart from the one under the bumper).
It is the 5th one I have had now, the first which I still have I got in 1997 - a 1989 model ES which is now a donor vehicle. If I had excess cash I would get it back road worthy. So after 3 reds and a black I decided on a change.
I will aim to get posting so I can get pics up, in the meantime thanks again and happy to be here.

Seats will be corec for year, judging by the wheels. Its just a 93-95 spec rather than a 92-93.
Past:
94 Turbo - Red
94 Turbo - Black (Converted from NA 2.0)
92 Turbo - Red
90 Turbo - Silver
Now:
00 Exige
15 GKD Legend
16 Skoda Superb

If its any consolation, if i remember correct it was a turbo...so not EXACTLY the same  Plus if its on a flatbed chances are its now scrapped!! So maybe you are original! ;)

Have seen it on facebook too, its swell!

Nice to hear you have/have had other 480s too, nice one!! :hopping:

Thanks, I think ! lol

Not sure why really, I would like to think it was a stroke of genius or perhaps more likely just a stroke.
Seriously, I decided after having 4 red and 1 black 480 I needed a change.
After watching Kill Bill for the umpteenth time I thought yellow and black like Uma's outfit or Bruce Lee's in Game of Death.
The 480 has enough black on it I thought to carry it off.
When choosing I originally was going for thr Renault yellow like on Alonso's winning car of 06.
I finally chose, after a suggestion, on the yellow from the 70's used on the Ford Escort Mexico. Ironic I thought since I don't particulary like Ford's and that they now own Volvo. Glad it's getting good reviews, I love the car to bit's and only see me ever parting with it for a C30, obviously in yellow !
Then again who am I kidding, I would try to have my cake and eat it.

I really like that colour!

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the car resprayed and how much (roughly) did it cost?

Cheers

I got the car sprayed at a local spray shop, I will ask my friend first to see if he minds me putting his details up here.
As for cost it was the grand total of £800.00, this was due in part to the fact I stripped the car down and he was using some stock paint.

I will post more pics when I have done my quota of posts on the forums.

I also had in mind to retro fit her with the 5-spoke alloys from the 89 model ES, however probably spraying them black first with yellow lettering. I think though now this maybe one step beyond.

I then thought of trying to get the 5-spokes from the 440/460, the ones that look like its a thick bit then a thinner bit behind it - sorry don't know the reference for them. Not been ale to find any though.......

Thought's people ?
