What do you reckon?

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Hi guys,
I've been pondering over the celeb today and thought the taurus wheels would look pretty sweet on it. Just wonderd what you fellow 480 owners think? Basically i'm a turbo wannabe but cant get insured!

Thanks

Worst thing is, insurance seems to be going that way too! By the time we are "mature" enough to own a fast car, they'll be wanting us to get medicals cos we are too old!!

@ Esta - I know what you mean its a total piss take, by the time iv got enough cash one day hopefully to get a sweet motor the v8, v12 etc would be in the history books! Never mind we'll have to get rich quicker i guess!!!!
@ mits Yeah but i think it'd be pretty obvious when i got me toe down! Ummmmm your car seems to be pretty fast for a 13 year old Volvo and id have a few questions to answer to my insurers if i put it on the wrong side of a hedge, heaven forbid my poor baby!

But what do you guys think bout the wheels better than the Cetus jobs?

Hmmm as far as a sensible answer with regards to the wheels goes....um, well i think i prefere the celeb wheels, but thats cos im a tart and i love to show off my bright red callipers! ;) I think you can see more of the callipers thro those 6 spokes than the turbo 5 spokes. but thats just a shallow look on it really :D

Been there girl and decided fuck it. Got a turbo and paid the grand insurance in installments with mega excess to get it down to a grand. I figured this would be cheaper as i didn't plan on claiming for a thing. I was 20 when i got my first turbo, had 3 years no claims and 6 points on my licence.

As for the rims i would stick with what you have got. They actual look very nice on the 480 especially when lower. LOKI has those rims on his 2ltr lowered and it really looks the part.

Celeb 2.0 - 2 years no claims, no points £850 per year fully comp! Rip off in my opinion. Insurance wont let me sniff a turbo until i'm 21! :(

one thing i have learnt from years of experience and my family is that unless you have agreed value or your car is worth mor than 5k fully comp is not worth the paper it is on. TPFT is all you need.

7 years ago i had a 1988 fully loaded 480ES, and some twat in a transit van opened their rear door straight into the wing. I was away skiing at the time. On my return i was screwing, but a number of people had seen this happen and got their details. They said to go through their insurance who looked at the car and quoted 900 pounds to repair it  the insurance company then said that they would pay me out for the car as it was a write for the sake on basically a parking ding. By the time i had paid my excess i would have got just 100 pounds for my car. I cancelled my claim which is easier said than done and kept the car.
Because most insurance campanies use the glass guide for paying claim the 480 is worth nout. If your excess is 200 your car is worth 500 then all you will end up with 300 which isn't enough to buy another car. Its all a scam. Fuck fully comp as whatever you claim for will most probly write it off anyway

The cheapest 480 turbo insurance i have had though was 350 TPFT 500 excess all mods listed and unlimited milage agreed value on the car of 2500 plus cost of my mods. My details were Male 23 medium risk post code 6 points 1 accident. At the sametime from the same insurance company fully comp would have been 1750!!!!! this was through HIC

But at times i've paid precisely zero for fully comp, and on average it costs me about an extra 20 quid. I only run 150 excess these days too.

I have 3 fully comp policies atm.

650 on skyline (7 years no claims)
500 on primera (no no claims, introductory discount)
130 on volvo, classic.

As for wheels....Cetus need spacers...they make the arches look like big fat granny bingo wings. Other than that i like them, but i like taurus a little better, and they fill the arches much more nicely.

ESTA:- You have to consider that your GT rims are the same width as Taurus, where cetus are narrower and seem to run a different offset too.

3 years NCB, 21, £42 a month TPFT.

Tesco would also allow me a turbo, although I don't know how much. I doubt it'd jump too much.

Well being as I have never paid over £600 for any car and nothing over £450 for a 480, then perhaps a grand is expensive for me...but with my job and that I only really socialise with lads, and I know for them, £3k is expensive!!!

My ES 2l was £400 TPFT and when I got that @ 19 yrs old and 2NCB, then upgraded to a GT, and had to find a different insurer, as any were saying that until I was 21 it was classed as a group 18!! Just cos it has GT on the badge!!! Then when I did eventually turn 21 and with 3NCB-and then 3 points! (18 months with no speedo, and I drive 1 other car with a speedo and i caught!!! ) I still only pay £350 and thats fully comp now!!
