Number Plates

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Number Plates

Post by David » Sun Jun 15, 2008 8:16 pm

I'm thinking for getting rid of the bulky support for the number plate on my 480 and just fastening a new plate flush with the bumper. Anybody here done anything similar?

I kinda figured that bit alright.

Perhaps I should have been more specific, has anybody here done anything similar and does it make much of an improvement to the appearance of the car? Any pics?

Hi.

I too didn't like the bulkyness. Just make sure when you fit it it's as flat as you can possibly get it! I think the colour of the car pays a part in how it looks too.

With and Without.

Hope thats some help.

Just looked at Dan the 480 Man pics.

I have a white Celeb with no surround. I prefer it with the surround.

Anyone have one for sale ?

Cheers

I used to have a couple of pictures on my computer of various number plate ideas but I can't seem to find them in my 480 folder... :|

Anyway, I had a couple of off-set number plates just like on the
Alfas and it works really well in my opinion. The 480 has the perfect front for doing this with, it almost looks 'right'. If you off-set it be sure to use a nice black number plate surround as it'll look more authentic!

I've seen a Japanese sized plate and I've photoshopped square number plates onto the front of the 480 before and I think they look quite good, in an aggressive way. Then again I prefer square number plates over rectangular! You'd need to bulk either side of the bumper out though as a bent / 'folded' square plate looks really odd.

Stick-on number plates look stupid, but then again there's very few classic vehicles I actually think suit them anyway!

Go for the off-set number plate! ;)

Nice!
I like it. Would love to see some pics of 480's with Alfa style plates, or Jap style square ones...

That looks loads better, i think i might take my surround off. Not too keen on the Alfa situe, jus wouldnt sit right on a 480.

I think that looks ok. As before, i think certain colours can carry it off-and your's is one of those colours.

I know what people mean though, it does feel like somethings missing (apart from the obvious). I just personally didn't like the bulkyness of the holder.

With regards to square ones on the 480, i think thats a big no-no. Owen080808 had a square plate on his when he got it, but it looked a bit....interesting. Too 'quirky' for a 480. You have to remember, the 480 is quite a smooth shape (in a set-square type smooth!), and big chunky things hanging off it don't look good imo. I think a smaller plate plate would look nice. I toyed with this idea not long after i got it, but it's a small community where i live, so didn't want any un-necessary interest from the ol' bill!

I played about with the small offset plate on Photoshop, but decided against it.

My fave is the small one that sits on the right (looking head on), but to be visible it would have to be the left... Eitherway, i don't think any look right off centre. Just my opinion anyway- thought i'd throw it into the mix

Top image is good, but would be better on the other side so you dont loose the VOLVO.

The ones on the bumper to the sides, although not my cup of tea, look good on a white one, but wouldn't look so good on any other colour i dont think as there would be all this white background and look untidy!! (IMO only!!)

Plus knowing my luck the police would come and measure the letters/numbers etc etc. They always try to get me *sulks*!!

I'm pretty sure that JayTee had a stick on plate on the nose-cone. I think theres a pic of it in one of the car-of-the-month articles on the main site, Dec '04. It looked shit hot if you ask me.
