What should i do?

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

What should i do?

Post by 480 Tatey » Fri Apr 18, 2008 5:34 pm

Hello!
Recently i have been saving up a bit of cash not for any reason just aint spent it! And i'm sort of thinking of modding my celeb but i'm not sure if its a better idea to find a turbo and mod that insted? I'm not into the rude boy scene with ripspeed stickers slapped about! But love euro themed cars. This is what i was thinking of doing Please be honest if you think its a stupid idea!

Lower by 40mm springs? Maybe coilovers?
Subtle exhaust not moosive jus a 3" one or sumthing?
Revolution RFX wheels (ones off the sc design 480)
Subtle engine mods such as an ecu chip if you can get these? And an air filter.
Slight window tints not totally black jus smoked.
oh and the sound system sorted out!
What do you guys think?
Owen

It was suggested to me that if you are going to buy a Turbo, you will get a better deal with a Rich Modded one...this may help you: http://volvo480.dragons.org.uk/forum/vi ... hp?t=15358

But maybe i'm biast cos i refuse to sell my GT for a turbo  Especially as richmodding is getting scarce !!

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

Lol yeah it kinda threw a spanner into my works too, so i sympathize

Yeah those superchips are stupidly overpriced. I am just going to get some racing cams for mine, one day, when i have spare money lol!

Good luck making the decision!! ;)

dont drop it 40mm you will forever be grounding on speed bumps!

the 2 ltr is so smooth but if you want serious grunt but with some subtlety go for a rich modded turbo the acceleration is magic. A subaru wont leave standing on twisty roads only on the straight ones.

a rich modded turbo will do somewhere in the region of 138-148 mph tops.

How much lower would you suggest? I'm paranoid now as it is about breaking the delicate splitter, but i also feel the urge to lower...

Don't be too put off. I never scraped the spoiler in my ownership, and mine was quite low in the end, (Driver side) (Passenger side) once it had 'settled' so to speak. Plus the stereo in the boot weighed a bit also. But i did manage on a -40mm drop. If i was to do it again, i'd probably go for a 30/35mm kit, allowing for the springs to settle.

I did get a few centre pipe scrapes, but that was rare, and some of the speed bumps here are nasty! A 40mm drop does look good....;)

lowering does improve the handling significantly but 30mm at most or 20mm .

lowered sons 480 turbo and it is amazing but regularly scrapes exhaust on speed bumps or in glasgow speed bump squares!

my exhaust scrapes on some speed bumps and its standard! Its a hard one to decide. Its purly because the celeb i have at the minute is a great 480 full volvo sh, no rust all it needs is £150 chucking at it to make it mint. And 480's like that are rare as fook! I agree with Jim a turbo would make sence so i think i'm gunna do that, but to find a mint turbo 1994-1995 low milage, good history no rust, manuial box in either white, or the dark met grey (£850-£1000) is the only car i would be intrested in, and i think i'm gunna struggle to find such a beast? :(

i would mod the 2ltr. polish and port the head, cam, cermanic coated pistons then a stand alone ecu from Emerald which includes a full rolling road set up session. I know of many people with this ecu and it is the mutts nuts. The guy really know his stuff and how to get the most from your engine.
