Hood vents?

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Hood vents?

Post by aibast » Sat Nov 17, 2007 6:17 am

Please post your pics of a modified hoods. Thinking of modifing my spare hood to vent out the hot air. That would be the best shape and location on the hood. I understand that the vent must be in a low pressure zone over the hood to draw out hot air. My main idea is to but the vent just behing the radiator in front of the engine, so that in case of rain the water droms trouh the engine bay to the ground in front of the engine.

i keep playing with the idea of a bonnet stand off kit
it raises the rear of the bonnet up to let the hot air escape, easily acheived with washers or maybe a spacer to fit under the bracket.. Do you get any fouling issues with this larger bonnet ??

Just PLEASE dont do what i saw some silly Fiesta do...

The bonnet is raised by half an inch at the top (by the windscreen!)

I do not know whether the time and effort had been put in to change the hinges around, but it looked absolutely rediculous on this Fiesta, and i just wanted to get my crow bar and prise the damn thing off!! There is a time and a place and a damn good reason for bonnets being like that, but the time isnt everyday, the place isnt coventry city centre, and the reason isnt just so it can look cool to your chavvy mates...

...Maybe i'm just being mean... :?

Lol, me thinks i feel quite strongly against modified fiestas

There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Volvo 480 ;)

Um...cant actually remember the colour, i thought it was red...but it may have been white...my memory isnt what it used to be (ha ha!! )

I am sure a subtle lift would be fine...but this Fiesta may just have had "INSERT CROW BAR HERE" and a big red arrow pointing to the edge-wouldve been more subtle

Ha ha, aw bless him, gotta give him credit for trying-actually nah!

Lol, and what gives you the impression i dont like them ??

You could give me a choice between a rough bottom of the range 480 or a good top of the range fiesta and i would pick the volvo...unless i was allowed to take the fiesta, sell it, and use the profit to do up the volvo :hopping:

And yes, you were definately far from being a chav lol ;)

Plus there is the fact that, why would anyone want a car that is not only as common as muck (and usually driven by the same sort of person!) but is also samey looking and dull?

480 wins hands down everytime! ;)

Anyho, back onto the bonnet...was curious as to what a bonnet scoop (such as those "snow scoop" style ones the foum had for sale) would do? I kinda like them...but i can't be bothered to make one if it doesn't do anything useful...
