Later mirrors to earlier mirrors

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Later mirrors to earlier mirrors

Post by Loki » Mon May 21, 2007 1:34 pm

Is it possible 2 fit the early type mirrors on ot a 95 plate? The early ones are a bit more sturdy and feel a bit more solid than the later type.

The advantage of the later mirrors is:
1) They have a slight curve to see more of the dead angle
2) They can be turned inwards so they don't kick your mirrors off at night

But I believe they will fit.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but with the old style mirrors don't they just slide off their bracket if they're kicked? Thats what happened to mine anyway, they just dangle by a piece of string...?

But the first point is very valid, and useful on the motorways! :D

Someone kicked the mirror on my old 1987 ES once, it indeed sprung out of its bracket. When I got in I didn't noticed this, just that it was wrongly adjusted. So I adjusted it and started driving. After a few meters it was off again. So I got out and found out. I was able to push it back into its bracket and all was fine.

Oh damn! just removed old style mirrors because I thought one was broken because it slid out of its mounting and replaced with newer ones. Just as well I kept the older ones anyway.

Oh well I will just go onto the porch and play my banjo
