Frowned upon? ...

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Frowned upon? ...

Post by muddyfox470 » Wed May 16, 2007 10:27 pm

Is it frowned upon to debadge the rear of the car? (Just checking with you guys first) ;)

I will probably remove the 2 litre lettering at the back as I think it only entices the local riffraff...
Also may save it from getting nicked on the continent whilst on our roadtrip :)

Is there an easy way to go about doing this? Without damaging the paintwork etc, because obviously they have been stuck on there for agesssss...

Ta,

Ian

Nah mate, I know Rich Pruen's is debadged for one. Get a hairdryer to melt the glue and use a scraper. I think it's stuck onto the window, so you should be ok with the paintwork. I debadged the front of mine, using the hairdryer/ credit card method.

There is no point in debbdgeing 480's cos I think the car is so different that most gearheads know what it is :)

Not the chavs and the happy go lucky lads...

They see its got a 2litre, they see the age and they'll try to crash it into a wall or two.

The 2.0l badge isn't on the glass, it's under the clusters yah?

I removed my 'catalyser' badge. Didn't like it, and had smashed the cat through anyway.

I say it's ok as it's not on all 480's anyway...

I've also removed the badge on the nosecone. I think it looks out of place, but it may go back one day.

Might even try with no badges at all but I can't quite bring myself to remove something that says 'Turbo'!

Chavs dont want your car! - If only they had a little taste... They'd rather take the 1.2 Corsa with the flipin nice paint job and the bumper from a megane hanging off the front.

Yeah the 2litre badge is on the paintwork underneath the clusters.

I was going to simply "re-badge" my car recently...

The idea John Turbo came up with sounded best to me.

Use the 480 badge from a Renault Magnum 480 bhp truck. Its the same font or lettering style as the later 440s and 460s.

Use a Turbo badge from a Porsche 997,the chrome scripty looking one..

Then you have a Renualt badge and a Porsche one,2 honest links to the 480!

Didnt do it but will one day...

I'm going to leave the Volvo front and back lettering as well as the 480ES.

But I think that the 2litre could be a little tempting to some twerp, despite the diminutive size of the lettering. It's already had an attempted break-in with absolutely nothing in the car...

Just making sure it is easy enough to get off :)

As I didn't want to post a new topic, and I want to get it right without sounding gay/camp)

where is the best place to put the GB sticker on the back of the 480?

Mines just to the left of the boot handle, but dunno about the 'best'. wherever looks good to you i guess! I highly reccommend blu-tac'ing it in various places to test though

I wasn't quite expecting an answer as sensible as that :D

Will have a mess around once I've gotten my 2litre badge off.

Especially when you hand it over to a friend, who looks at the tailgate before filling the car up after borrowing it...

No worries: who would these days take the effort to fill it up for you

Funny story - The guy I sold my old Blue turbo to thought it was a diesel! It was flashing red when I sold it to him and he went and put £5.00 of Diesel in it. The car still ran, albeit lumpy! He got home, realised his mistake and then drove it back to the petrol station and filled up with petrol. I can't believe it still ran though! It must of been a 30% petrol/70% diesel mix and it still took him the 4 miles home an dthen 4 miles back to the station! Car runs fine now too!

actualy you can use diesel to free up siesed or a bit stuch oilrings and compression rings. For that you would need to inject some diesel fuel in to the intake while the cars running. On carby engines it's easy but on turbiinjections I think it could be done via vacumehose or something like that.
