Gear knob

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Gear knob

Post by pol » Mon Feb 12, 2007 11:30 am

Ok, I have the Momo wheel, the half leather interior and I feel the need for a nice black leather gear knob. i havent really looked for one yet but i'm assuming it may be difficult because of the reverse lifty up bit.

Anyone know what to do with this?

There are two types you can choose from. The lifting up reverse is actually fairly common, so most decent manufacturers have models for both types.

i just replaced my gearknob, put the standard volvo one back on in place of the somewhat scruffy momo one which came with the car. shifting now is much better as the momo one was sort of perched right at the end of the lever (hence making it longer) to allow the reverse lift action, i would advise either get one which fits properly (nice and low on the lever) or the feel of shifting will suffer. just my .02

The gear knob looks good, but in my opinion gear knob is a bit too high. So I lowered it by ~40 mm (wanted to lower a bit more, but the reverse lift up mechanism does not allow more), now it looks better, and shifting became more tight, I like it.

you could always remove the lift up bit, and modify it to a lever or something.....easy enough to do.....
that way you can have any knob you want
