Front spoiler in the works

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Perhaps is a solution powdercoating although the grill is quite likely to catch stones.

I' think I'll let it be for a while and see what comes of it. At the moment its covered with dirt, sand and other stuff from the road. As you can see on the previous pic.

managed to drive the spoiler into a concrete sign holder. But thank god made it so strong only the paint was scratched. So people, make your spoilers way way fiberglass overkill.

Yep i'd second that! Mine gets bottomed out on all sorts of lumpy roads, luckily we made the leading edge very very thick with resin :D

That would be a good idea. Why isn't it made of that anyway?!

I think it'll more likely be because the bumpers are fairly soft, so they scratch, chip and dent very easily. I think the idea would have been to make the spoilers tough and durable to protect against high curbs, speedbumps etc

Likewise! fiberglass is generally better than plastic for body parts i think!

Thats because most brand cars (ie ford, vauxhall, renault etc) make their cars as cheap as possible to maximise profits. However the 480 was by no means a budget car (shown by the amount of luxuries it came with), so I'm guessing Volvo decided to try and make it last a bit.

Either that or they didn't know how to mould plastic either!

pitty they didnt have a large budget on the electrics and the testing of it.

on my S60 the spoiler is also plastic and if hit on a curb it wont splat isn 10 pieces like on the 480. so many spoilers have got bits missing

Helicopter Tape

Post by benmagoo » Fri May 04, 2007 7:59 am

We use clear tape on the leading edge of the front diffusers here at my work, it is the stuff they put on the leading edge of copter rotors and is very strong £200 per roll (yes £200 per duct tape sized roll)

The clear tape used to stick plastic green houses together is a good alternative.
