Rim selection

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Rim selection

Post by DaKyy » Sat Sep 02, 2006 8:57 am

I'm going to get new rims for my project 16 or 17 inches. It's a bit difficult to decide where to go with this so I'll ask your opinion

At the moment I quite fancy the Borbets and Keskins. I've still got a whole year to decide so... :) I'm after the RH Classic look that the 480's with Hausser bodykits had. Maybe those Keskins look a bit too "tuning" for my taste.

Also, If you've got any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. There are so many desings I can't possibly dig them all up.

Azev ones are nice, but i think the Borbet wheels would be my choice... Look chunky-the sort of wheel that suits a 480 imo. :D

Excellent selection of rims, I too went for the borbet, I've always loved the deep dish alloys...

I'd go for the Borbet, they look like a deep dish version of the Vega wheels

Difficult one this!

I ended up having to put a picture of your car and the wheels side by side! Our choice of alloys is very similar too!I like multi spoke alloys so it made this even harder!!!!!

I decided on Azev A as the spokes are closer to the edge of the arches.Borbets are miles nicer but I would be wanting to put the spokes further out.A waste of a beautiful wheel in my opinon. This style Borbet looks fantastic on so many cars, but Azev if I were you.....

Good Luck with your restoration!

Steve

Thanks for replies so far! Seems Borbet is winning at the moment. :) Does anyone know any similar more classic (as in 80's style ;) ) desings?

I'll have to say those Keskins look too complex so they won't fit to 480's looks. Probably thats why they haven't received any votes :)

Also, about those multispokes, any recommendations? I "only" know those Fox's.

edit: too bad almost all new desings won't fit to 480's looks at all...

Multispokes, yes Oz Superturismo are finest quality.

TSW Imola are available second hand but no longer in production for last few years now, these were a cheap version of the same thing.Oz Superleggera are also very pretty...... but expensive.

I love the Borbet ones, they remind me of the rears on a Lotus Esprit, look really good with the front rims having the design fully extended rather than set back as with most Esprit's.

That said, I honestly do not think they would look good on the car, so my vote goes with the Avez, they look a slightly modern update to the Taurus rims and I think would sit beautifully upon a 480.

Good luck with the restoration.

Shame you can't get the 'Hydra' (900 series aren't they)-they would look pretty cool. But the Titan's from the 'R' models...well...

Still like the Borbets though...now they'd look nice in Anthracite too.

I'd like to know why this thread was transferred to this section - and who was it? :D :kill:

Seems like it's always my threads that get the axe!
