The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Some pics of my latest work! Not one for the purists.

After much messing about getting the bits and pieces I needed for my DIY induction kit. I was slightly disappointed with the results (i.e. lots of hot air being sucked into my engine).........

........so there were two options:

1. Admit defeat, refit the original air box.

2. Fit a bloody great bonnet vent, to get cold air to the filter cone.

Being a bit of a secret "Barry" at heart, I opted for the second option! Not wanting to go down the usual jap-style vent route. I found this rather attractive fibre glass vent from Burton Power for a meager £20 (inc p+p) it fits flush with the bonnet a little bit like a Renault 19 16v one.

As you can see from the rest of the pics, I have started sanding down and prepping the body for a new coat of paint. The original paint was showing 14 year of scars, scratches, chips and lifting lacquer. The rest of the body is in rather good condition with very very very little rust. The rear wheel arches are rust free! I have smoothed over the rear side repeater recess, as IMO they look shat.

As for the colour, well it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste.......... but if its good enough for the north atlantic treaty organization its good enough for me. I have chosen Matt NATO Green; I have seen several Mk1 golfs, a Mk2 RX-7 and even a Ferrari 575 in this colour (it looks awesome). And at £35 for 5 liters it's a bit of a bargain.

I plan to spray the bonnet satin black, fit clear front clusters and euro-style pressed metal number plates. Not sure what wheels I fancy (no bigger than 15’s), but after seeing Dan's black Tanus wheel I might just spray mine gloss black?

Any feedback would be great, please don’t be too mean :)

not bad.....but you have to think about stopping water getting in there too....when its raining and youre trapping around, water is gonna run in there and make your filter all soggy!
not sure on the green......theres some pics of a 480 in army green.....hmm....jurys still out

all in though, good effort.....nice to see people doing the mods rather than talking them!

have you a 'sample' of green you could post here and we can see exactly what colour your talking about? I must say ... i think black is my favourite 480 colour! :cry:

I really like the idea of a suttle scoop for the air intake and when this one is finished, i think it'll look ace! good luck!

I think I can see where you are going with this but a nato green 480 has already been done as has a camo colour scheme.

As for the big snotter on the bonnet, you have the following problems with. You have a cone filter which isn't water proof. you are ruducing the smooth flow of air over the bonnet resulting me high levels of drag around that part of the bonnet.

Once long ago I had a cone filter (pipercross) on my 480 and I went through a puddle and due to the filter sucking well it sucked up a load water causing my engine to be very unstable with no power.

I saw the matt green 480 on the main site, so I know I am not doing anything groundbreaking. But I really fancy it!

If anyones got a pick of the camo one please post it up?

My air filter is stainless steel mesh type so there is no foam/cotton/paper to get soggy (i guess i will have to re-oil it regualy).

As for the sucking up water, surely the original air box would be more prone to this as the air intake is down by the front bumper with a small tight pipe (straw like if you will :))?

They way I'd look at it, because it's at the bottom, the rain isn't falling into it... :dunno: Water will be coming through the new vents and landing right on your filter and getting sucked in...

I want to fit water injection when I eventually get round to getting a bigger turbo!

Got a spare exhaust manifold just need to find a suitable t28/t3 and start bodging :D

Good job that you tried the air intake. I think it would a lot better in body colour. It might quite fit your NATO style. Certainly if you fit some pop rivets around it.

Im not sure if the 480 is the best car for this style, but you dont care what I think, do you? :lol:

Isn't possible to fit an air intake as I photoshopped and turn the airfilter 90 degrees? It looks that there is enough space beside the hose (intercooler-inlet manifold)

Hi all

good ideas but personnally id have chosen a differant(scoop)but thats me,but it serves the purpose:)

i had that size cone on my old saab 9000 and it was great(that suck noise when you shut the engine off):)

well i bugger`d the saab in a ford which was sorta deep,despite id driven through it 20mins before:)

well it got sucked into the cone and submerged the rear exhust tip and that was that:)

i was dragged out and after a day trying and a bad smelling clutch i got it running only to have the idle stuck at 3ooorpm+:):0

well i got shot of it but i was still impress it took nothing but drying out but the saab still started

guy told me that he saw a guy blow his engine up doing just the same oops
