Wheel spacing

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

Wheel spacing

Post by 98kellrs » Thu Jul 21, 2005 6:20 pm

Im probably not the only person who thinks that the standard 14/15 inch wheels provided on the 480, are no-where near wide enough, or big enough to fill the generous arches the Volvo designers have provided us with.

What can i do to push the wheels further outward to fill the gaping space in the arches? Was considering wider wheels 200mm diametre + for example, but surely they only increase the wheel width into the arches.
Second idea was wheel spacers, but these seem to either break and cause nasty accidents, or have horrid affets on the ahndling (neither of which i want!)
Finally i thought about 'shaving' the arches and not making them bulge out as much, but this would detract from the beauty of the car...

Are there any other options that i've overlooked?
Ryan.

look for some 'deep dish alloys'
they were very popular in the 80/90s (carlos fandango super wide wheels on the falstaff advert anyone!!)....the dish goes outwards, rather than inwards......wolfrace are a brand that springs to mind......
other than that, get as wide a tyre as possible, and have a spacer....as long as the spacer isnt too big, it should be ok.....

I have 205 tyres and these rub the arches on full lock.

Tonight I put on a new set of wheels, 195/50 R15 ET37 OZ alloys and they are just rubbing somewhere on full lock - haven't had a chance to check where as it's dark.

A bit surprising as 15x6.0e40 with 195 tyres seems to be an OEM fitment. Must be because my wheels are 7" wide?

Anyway, there isn't that much more room for rubber unless you don't mind getting frisky with a big hammer. :-(

rubbings not good, but surely that wouldn't happen with deep dish alloys?
