colour codes question

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

colour codes question

Post by robkendall » Fri May 20, 2005 1:38 am

just been looking at the colour specs on the main site
here

it says that 318 paris met blue, only available in 1993/1994/1995, but mine is registered as a 1991 (j plate)
looking under carpets/seats/nooks and crannies, i wouldnt have said that its been resprayed etc....
was the paris met blue available earlier, or has mine had a very expensive paint job at some point?

Check in engine bay. There's pieces of metal that VIN number is on it. On right side there are 3 numbers in the middle it is colour code if ti's 318 so it's Paris Blue. I have seen some paris blue from 91, 92 for sale so it's possible.

Lithuanian Volvo 480 website says that paris blue was made beetwen 90 and 95 so it's ok.

Yup, i thought that, which is why i thought my Paris Blue ES was a 1993, not a 1992. Manual said 1992, but colour spec said 1993, was confusing, all sorted now :D
Ryan.

1992 480 ES, 110k, Paris blue, custom SS side-exit exhaust, De-catted, custom fibreglass lightweight bonnet, custom fibreglass front spoiler, stripped interior, Slate Black textured metal paint throughout, Cobra Imola S drivers Seat, Ricco 4 point 3 inch harness, Magnecor KV85 leads.

Current Status: A very impressive track car. :-D

@Rob: what is the modelyear according to the VIN? And does the VIN-plaquette say 318 as color-code?

err.....there is no vin plate, but the vin number is stamped on the bulkhead, just to the side of where the clutch cable enters the car (RHD)
from this, using the vin reader, it is listed as a paris blue (318), and i have bought 318 paint from autopaint dealers, and its an exact match......just wondered if it was the original colour, but i think it is.....i think at some point theres been a new front end on the car, and whoever did it forgot to replace the vin plate!

So, have you had an MOT without the VIN plate then rob? I remember discussing this with you before, weren't you going to try to get a plate from the dealers?

hi chris.
yeah, ive had it mot'ed without the vin plate, but ive got about 10 (maybe all?) mot certificates etc, so i just give my garage my '480 wallet' with all these in etc.

i did contact the dealer, and they said they could *probably* order me a vin plate for it, but there was some stipulation i cant remember now....oh and it was somwhere in the region of 50quid, so i thought blow that!

I've moted cars without vins before...usually they just copy chassis number off the previous mot if you give it to them.

Been a while since i did car ringing mind ;)
