Hello everbody here, i'm a member of various other online clubs and always found good answers off the regular users, so i decided ye here might be able to help me.
Do any of ye know about puttin a volvo 850 engine into a 480, its engine code is b5254, its a 2.4 petrol 5-cylinder is it possible, limitation's etc... any help is appreciated

edit by admin: please use more meaningfull subjects in your starting post, simply using 'volvo 850' as subject doesn't quite cover it. Thanx

It will not fit. Engine is too wide for engine bay.

With a enough skill/brut force you can fit a transverse rover V8 into a a-series mini, so fitting a t-5 engine or relative in to a 480 it totally possible.

Just need time and money

Time and money are the only limiting factors ;)

there's plenty of room in there for it. all you have to is decide on volvo fwd or the audi quattro 4wd transmission ;)

About the quattro transmission, could it be done?

anything can be done if you are capible, or can pay some1 who is, and have enough time.

i'm assuming that the T5 lump is the same engine type as the 2.2 turbo audi unit, which i'm told it is. 4wd is possible but would require chassis work for a transmission tunnel and rear axle and then further work for rear suspension, but like i said, it could be done.

The T5 engine is Volvo's own development. The bore stroke are not the same as the 5 cylinder from Audi (which is heavily based on VW/ Audi's 4 cilinders)
However Volvo did use the 5 cilinder diesel from VAG in the 850. This engine can be found in VW Transporters and Audi 100's.

They also used the VAG TDI engine in the early (classic shape) V70's too. Dad's got one in his, and it's certainly got some poke to it for such a big heavy car.

Absolutely true.
Have a look at what these guys achieve: http://www.e30.de/ .
It's not a 480, but just imagine...
