How to install rpruen mod?

Post by fargo » Wed Sep 28, 2005 9:27 am

Hello guys.
Sorry for the hastle, but I just received the modified ECU from our Richard the Wizard, and I'd like to now for sure how to install it. Unfortunately I cannot reach Richard, probably he is away or busy or maybe sick, so I decided to ask it here. Is it only plug-and-pray? Or is there a standard protocol for unleashing all the sleeping horses in the car? Say, resetting the whole thing by removing wires from the battery or something like that?

I can harly wait...

(And Richard, if you read this, thanks for the fast shipment and friendly attitude, I'm really grateful :hopping: )

Yeah all you have to do is plug it in. The ECU will have no data on driving style as its been out of the car. It will tune itself to your driving (and to the condition of the engine etc) over the first few hundred miles.

Hy !

normally it´s just plug´n´play.
Just remove the old ECU in the middle section replace it with the modded one connect the tube to the MAP sensor of the ECU and give the LH-jetronic a reset ( disconnect Battery for 30mins or disconnect the connector ).
After that everything should be done, the first time when driving it´ll start learning again whichi about to take ~100km.

So shouldn´t be that big problem ;)

Thank you guys, I really appreciate.
I'll do it in the evening.

Exactly what is this "learning" about?
The computer determins my driving style and adjusts its mappings (or what) to that? Is this definitive from then on? Or the computer adjusts itself regularly?

it learns about the boost and how you drive ... this results in quicker spooling up time of the turbo and when drving more agressive the ECU probaly is going to react a little bit quicker.

OK, the question is:
Shall I leave the car with my wife and let her use it in the following days or shall I run it in? :D

Plug and play is the right words for it!!
The only advice i would give is run 97 ron fuel to get the best out of your car and mayb get som slightly hotter capacity spark plugs... can't remember the NGK code off the top of my head....
Richard is currrently without internet access so contacting him is gonna be tricky....

Hi again,

about the fuel I agree, but not with the spark plugs. As far as I know or had tested some slightly colder spark plugs would be better as in fact of the higher boost ... hotter ones could cause knocking and higher combustion temperatures.

About the driving I don´t really know what to say, if yoöu want to get sure that everything i working well and no probs are there with the mod it probably would be the surest way if you drive the car by your own the first few days ... just to be sure that all´s in fine working order.

Regards

Drive it hard mate, Don't let the wife drive unless she likes to spool some turbo up. Beat the ECU into wanting more power

OK, I will postpone the ECU swap for a few days, because I cannot pass the T5 to her, (I need the boot) while she cannot be without a car for the rest of the week. :cryhard:

BTW, she does love spooling the turbo, she is a pretty good driver. Outsider to cars, though. When I had the 850 tuned, it received 280 HP. I told her I'll take it to "springtime inspection and preparation". The next day she took it for a ride, then called me saying "this springtime thingie did miracles to the car, it goes like stink"!

What if it's already turned up? I guess it does not really matter, right?

there is a boost control solenoid valve that controls the amount of pressure that the wastegate gets.
its controlled by the ecu and means a perfectly flat torque curve, good old volvo :D

Dave :?
The boost on the 480 is controlled by the boost solenoid wich is controled by the ecu. So the modded ecu sets the boost higher and the fueling and ignition to go with it. :D Adjusting the wastegate actuator doesn't do anything becouse the ecu couldn't care less, it just opens the wastegate when it needs to no matter how long or short the actuator is.
