make 2.0i quicker
i have a volvo 480 2.0i es 1993.please help me.i was wondering how i can make it faster?where can i get a performance back box and induction kit.ive tried everywhere.please help

K&N do a replacment element for the volvo. Otherwise i am afriad its just a univeral cone filter for the induction size.
Exhaust. I got my stainless system from peco, others hzave had theirs from longlife. Depends on where yiou live. Avoid powerflow if you can
As for more power. I do believe that superchips do a chip for the 2ltr and there are also cams available.
The big valve head is not really worth it. However if you wanted this there are plenty of places out there that will do this for you.

You can get any 70mm induction kit, and it fits straight onto the standard pipe, i personally am using a pipercross viper, as it stops the heat problems associated with standard induction kits.
Performance back box, many custom places can sort you out with that, I am currently building a system using a carbon fibre motorbike endcan, just wanted to save some more weight, will only know performance gains / losses once its finished.
Water injection on a normally aspirated car, cant think there is much point in that, its mainly designed for lowering charge temperatures on turbo monsters.
The only cam i know of is from catcams, but they list it as a renault part but i believe it fits. Will be trying this when finances allow.
The best performance upgrade i have found is koni shocks with pi springs coupled up with some 195/50 yokohama a539's all nice and grippy, so not losing too much speed through the corners.

1.7 exaughst manifold
if you could fit (bodge) a 1.7 i exaughst manifold you would get much better response and an easy 10hp gain maybe 15hp the 1.7 is much better than the 2.0litre and asked at the last meeting if it would be possible but nobody knew if it could be done ,if it could i think it would the best 2.0litre mod by far...?

how would you get 10 bhp because the exaughst manifold is a much much better design by far.
personally i think that volvo did'nt want a 125bhp 2.0litre because it would be more powerfull than the turbo and would compromise marketing ethos.
it's just like if you put a 4 branch manifold on an old ford escort you would get maybe 10mph more and much batter accleration simply because the exaughst gases have much less resistance getting out of the engine.
the way some people do it on motorbikes on the 4 into 1 systems is use codbra shaped (like the snakes head) header tubes which means on the top bend on the pipes coming out of the engine the pipes are sqaushed to an oval shape which makes a good response and power increase.

Do the maths 1.7litre = 109 bhp
2.0 litre = 110bhp
so 109 dived by 17 = 6.411 bhp per 100cc capicity
with me so far??
so now 20 multiplied by 6.411 = 128.22 bhp now you get me i'm sure
all because of an exaughst manifold and if rich got hold the ecu maybe 10 bhp more and 98 octane fuel and a k+n and good power exaughst,
so + 10bhp for ecu mod (no longer available)
+ 10bhp on k+n and exaughst
+ 3bhp on 98ron fuel= !!!!!!! 128 +10+10+3 giving you 151bhp non turbo 2litre and i think this is very possible in most cases the manifold is much more important the pipe itself on all n/a 4 stroke engines.

I see what you're saying, and your sums add up to something, and i dont doubt that the 1.7 manifold is better if you've examined them, but to say that by changing the manifold gives you an exact increase in power doesn't work. They're different engines. You cant just say that the difference in power is all due to the manifold. Don't mean to argue but it just doesn't make sense to me!

Though I can't see that by changing the manifold and exhasut you are going to get 30/40bhp more, the K&N filter makes little or no differance, and the exhaust change makes little differance also (I have tried and tested these) a manifold change probably will but I think 30/40bhp is a little optimistic,

well , any tubular manifold will be superior if its designed right , i dont think tho that 10 hp could be had , and it would be at the expense of torque (ie real world driving) .
have a look under my 242 bonnet and you see a 4-2-1 .

I find this hard to believe that without gasflowing the cylinderhead you would gain till 150 bhp.

You calculate as 2.0 being an increased 1.7. This means you would also have to take the camshaft and the std 1.7 ECU in your modification. You only take the exhaust manifold.
I think you will get about 130 HP with better intake, modded ECU and sports exhaust sytem(including manifold)
