Rica Chip

Post by Peter vd P » Fri Oct 24, 2003 12:01 pm

Hi,

I am looking for some info regarding the Rica Chip.
I remember that about a half a year ago one of you guys installed the Rica chip in his car (Stargate?? not sure) for a reduced price and I was wondering how the car is now?
Are you still satisfied with it or is it dead now?
Does anyone knows if performance also improves in combination with the MBC from DBS (DAVE??)

Thanks

Peter

Speak to Bakke, he sells them at reduced price and is Rica authorised.

His email is in th memberlist.

I wouldn't use the MBC in conjuction with the Rica chip, it's one or the other as the MBC takes boost control away from the Rica chip.

The standard ecu controls boost by a soleniod valve mounted on the bulkhead.

To mount the MBC you have to remove the boost pipes to the soleniod and connect them to the MBC.

hence the ecu no longer has boost control, boost is controlled now with the MBC.

so jamo, if you were to do both then the chip would remove the boost limit and still do all the timing and stuff but you now have manual control over the boost so you can turn it down or higher (as if you only have the chip then the boost is set on the chip and cant be adjusted (incase you are skint one month and want to turn down the boost)

is this correct or have i still not got the hang of it?

All artificial boost control will require the soleniod boost pipes are disconnected

It's personal choice really. if your not going to chip then do it this way.

Chipped, leave connected.

If you want more boost, bypass it. Easiest way is MBC from DBS.

You can't disconnect it as the ignition will retard to fcuk if it thinks the valve isn't present.

i'll post the link explaining the boost system either tonight or tomorrow.

m8 the ecus are interchangable (if your cars less than 1991) you can get a duel layered one form another 480 turbo and swap it over.

jamo see how you say the chip either gives .9 or 1.1 bar, well are they not all set the same out of the box?

i would have thought the chips would all be the same and set to the same settings. why do they vary?

cheers again jamie.

simply because you can buy either a 0.9 or 1.1 bar chip like you can buy a red or blue 480 doh.
