hi folks,

i've got a 91 480 ES 1.7i N/A and i'm looking for a long term project for it... i dont want to turbo it or charge it in anyway so i was thinking just all out N/A ITB's Cam ect, however that got me thinking, i be aswell put a 2.0 480 engine in it, and then i thought why not a 16v conversion...

anyone every done a renault F7 conversion before? i understand they're a similar block or something? i'd be going standalone management, but wondered how well i'd get on with wiring and mounts and shafts ect, mostly the wiring for headlights and so on...

any ideas and comments welcome! :)

There is a thread on here showing which gearbox/engines ARE compatible to best to search for it?

TBH I'm not a fan of 16Valves , seem very 'peaky' and the 2 litre has more torque so maybe get more oomph just by bigger injectors and looking at breathing both in and out?

then your own engine management stuff is easy to do?

The Renault F3-engines as fitted to the Volvo 300 and 400-series have a reverse-flow design, i.e. the inlet and outlet are on the same side, whereas the F7-engines have a cross-flow cylinder head. So you have to find a way to re-route the exhaust.

Google is your friend.

I really would like to replace the worn F3R unit in my 480 2.0 (done over 200.000 miles already) by a more powerful engine, but I think the cost and the effort will deter me. :(

Cheers Alan 480, I just fancy doing something different! Haha a turbo swap still tempts me from time to time but I'm just unsure if I want boost, I like a good na car you can give a hoofing, and a 16v just gives you that little bit extra, plus the extra cc is nice, and then I could play with it, I'll have a look for the thread though!
