This might seem the daftest question ever but is there an easy way to disable the turbo through a switch of some kind...
No, not that I know of anyway.

Question is, why would you want to?

It would be painfully slow without a functioning turbo, much worse than the N/A 1.7, due to the much lower compression and the fuel/ignition maps expecting to see boost at increased revs.

Edit:
Ah, is this while you send Robou your boost ECU for modification?
If so, the simple answer is no, as that ECU does boost AND ignition, so it simply wouldn't run.

I've already had it done by Robou... Car is in for Mot on Tuesday.. It's been off of the road for a few years.. It will be good to get her back on the road...

It was more a question of if I really had to borrow it to my missus in an emergency could the turbo be switched off..

Understand the daftness of the question... I didn't really think there was a wire where I could just place a switch..

Cheers

Not necessarily.

Only way to tell is to watch the boost guage at it's running.
A richmod or Roboumod will sent the needle into the red.
Without, it won't!
Later Roboumods have a flylead coming out of them, early ones didn't I don't think.

Got a price for the gearbox sensor for me yet? ;)

Cheers Dude, it certainly sat in the red and gave a terrific drive :) . Just could do with a pic to identify the chip on the circuit board i need to look for.
Ive not forgot buddy, engine is coming out at some point next week(if it stops pissing it down) so will be easier to get at then. Cheers Kev
