What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
Hello
My 480 currently has a t25 fitted to it, out of interest what turbo's would/could I fit to my 480
What's bigger that's a direct fit, or with very little tweaking.
My turbo could do with a rebuild but just weighing up my options
Thanks in advance everyone

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
Bump... As mine NEEDS a rebuild
Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
T28rs? I haven't tried this, but people that have the nissan 200sx do this and they had a T25 originally
Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
There are a fair few previous discussions about turbo choice, but I think the key one is not to go too big, just because of clearance. If I remember rightly you're looking at T28s from Saabs, but will need a flange/custom fit.

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
Hey guys, apparently I've been told a bit of billy bull and my car is fitted with a t2. Not a t25... I don't know what to do right now, I've Got a seized turbo from my spares b18ft I bought and that looks smaller than the turbo fitted in my car,the actuator is bigger on the turbo I was led to believe was t25 and the housing appears a little larger... When being compared to the turbo that came on my spares engine, which I believe to be all standard. It's gonna cost between 2 and 3 hundred pounds to rebuild my turbo so I've been told...
I really need a new turbo, has anyone got anything decent for sale?
Car is off the road til further notice and it's my daily

Well, if Jim doesn't have one, then...
http://www.turbocentreuk.co.uk/ -- I recall from a Saab forum that these guys were half decent, but haven't used them myself (they didn't respond to an email I sent, but I hate telephones so if you don't, you may have more luck).
Also you may find one at a breakers yard, I don't think they actually die that often so you could get lucky. http://www.partsgateway.co.uk pings off emails to known good breakers (which I have used). Most don't seem to stock 480 parts that often, but you never know.

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
All standard turbo's in Volvo 400 series are T2's.
Only difference is that somewhere in 1991 or 1992, turbo's were changed a little bit.
The later T2 has a bigger actuator yes.
Other differences are are the pipes of oil and water, they differ a bit.

Hey, I came across this link on t'internet, don't know if it's still available, see page 2

Failing that I probably have an early T2 on my parts car...

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
get a T25 turbo , about £30 ish from a breakers , from a rover 2 litre turbo . tehn post your T2 together with your T25 to CRS http://www.crturbos.co.uk/ , and pay them £250 and they will turn both of the turbos into a hybrid with a 360 degree thurst bearing and balanced shaft . This is what the old skool 480 tuners used for for the SUPER RICHMOD , some running 225BHP !!! . cheers
140mph for £175 just test the brakes

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
I know I know, it's an old post...but...
I emailed CRS, no response as yet, with some questions:
What are the benefits of a hybrid turbo? i.e. what do I get for my money...less lag/heat/flow restriction, higher boost, more reliable...?
What do I need to change on my car, apart from changing the turbo out, to make this work effectively? e.g. injectors, MAP, timing, cam....??
(all my questions arose from reading the manual from Robou )
I added in the email I wasn't really interested in increasing the boost massively, I just was interested what would be achieved by bolting on this part. Basically, "I have xxx hp already, what does this piece do" sort of thing

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
Basically , i have not owned a 480 for 3 years ,But some info i remeber was that with the Richmod you could run up to 175BHP before the turbo and airflow for the electronics were at the limit of max power . The super Richmod used a 3 bar M.A.P sensor , an enlarged A.A.M ( air mass meter ) i.e a bigger girth tube , bigger injectors. and a T2 . T25 hybrid and could run at up to 235BHP . Rich who invented the mod , and a T4 turbo and MINI COOPER WORX supercharger with in car touch tablet fuel mapping in realtime . 290 BHP !!! really .
As for the is a hybrid good ? well yes , you get better than new racing 360 seals , centrafuge tested on 200,000 rpm balancing machines . and they can put in different shaped impeller blades for different applications , i.e all out BHP or faster spool up and smoother delivery etc . all in all CRS are a genuine company who build turbos for rally teams and cost a lot less than those national turbo companies . . With things like this its much better to talk over the phone as much more can be talked about in 3 minutes on the phone as it would take for 5 emails each way etc .
cheers

Re: What turbo can I fit to my 480 turbo
290 brake is a whole lot of power for a small car. Amazing what can be achieved. I love the idea of a laptop/tablet connection, I was looking at the Emerald systems but a little beyond my skills and budget at the mo. Thanks for information fella. Can I ask two more questions...? No worries if the info is long gone I'm just interested.
Was there any remapping required to go from a T2 to a T25? From his posts, Aibast sounded like he did this with standard Richmod. If no remap, I guess the benefit would be reduced inlet temperatures. But maybe also boost available earlier??
How did Richard bypass the supercharger, to avoid it becoming a restriction to the turbo? The Minis have a bypass valve that functions by either boost or vacuum I'm not sure. But this is only to bypass the 'charger at tickover. The VW TSI twincharger engines have a clutch on the supercharger (like AC compressor) and a bypass valve to stop them both spinning together.
I have searched the forum but can't find much detail on the above...better call CRS as you say
Cheers,
Curious
