I fitted one to my 1.7ES, but removed it again 'cause I found the noise too irritating. It does give a nice roar, but don't try and talk to anyone and accelerate at the same time! I opted for a performance panel filter instead.
If anything, I noticed a power decrease from the induction kit, but then I may not have had it set up right, and there may not have been enough cold air being drawn into the engine for it to work properly. I haven't noticed any real power difference from the performance panel filter, although it has helped my idle a little bit.
Ben.

Yup worth it, some more noise (not that much) and a little more power, i'm sure of this becouse the top speed is a little bit higher

does it give it faster acceleration?
thats what i hate about my car
everything else is gr8 just that lol
i mean in the country you cant do more than 60mph unless u go on dual carriageways which i dont as i have no need too.
im gonna "borrow" my mates of his car and see if it makes a difference
what do you mean... a snake under your bonnet?

i think acceleration is a little better to, it keeps pulling longer in higher revs but i don't think it will turn your car into a drag racer
Do u have a turbo or an es ?

Kirsty, you must remember that the 480 is a classic. If you think of it as a street racer car, you will be perpetually dissapointed, however if you think of it as the Rare, unusual classic that it is, you will feel much happier about owning one. Lets face it, without spending £1000's the 480 is never going to be a rocket ship. If you want to have a street Racer, where you can get people (loose definition) going ooh and ahhh at your Spoiler and Big exhaust, just buy another car, as this is not the philosophy of the 480.
Just my opinion.

I don't feel that Kirsty is wanting a street racer. She just want's the extra power that must of us want. My turbo is plenty fast while it was sucking in hot air but we still stuck that pipe on for the cold air.Kirsty, you must remember that the 480 is a classic. Kirsty,
The snake was that hissing sound you get off an open filter....and not Jim Morrison singing!! Gotta be a Doors fan for that joke.
You have replaced the sparks/lead/distibutor and fuel filter recently havent you? My ES didn't hang about so maybe combustion isn't occuring as well as it should. If so, I'd pull the error codes from the diagnostic tool under the bonnet to see if you are getting misfires etc.
If you do need some spark leads I can get silicon leads for £18 for the 480.

Ah what does it matter, tune those 480's or keep them in original condition...whatever your thing is. 480 philosophy? Its just a car dudes! And I love em so much i bought 2!
Personally I like the wolf in sheepsclothing original on the outside & tuned under the hood.
And believe me the turbo's are faster than most saxo's/corsa's!
But I don't think an open airfilter is going to get u killed kristy....sorry An ES is not so easy to tune, perhaps you could chiptune it but even that won't make that much of a difference, and would cost too much. Perhaps a 2.0litre would do it?
P.S. the getting killed thing is part of the reason i drive my 480 (turbo) they are lot safer than most fast little cars. I once read an old volvo add that stated that the 480 Turbo had more "dynamic safety"

Well said Mathew. I think certain parts of the 480 should be left well alone.MatBat wrote:Kirsty, you must remember that the 480 is a classic.
