480T studdering at full pedal.

Post by Mads P » Thu Aug 21, 2003 8:05 pm

Hi guys.

As some of you might know I have transformed my ES to a turbo. Did a complete swap from a turbo.

The car has run fine for 8K km, but nok sometimes when I give it full pedal and the presure rises to about 1cm from where the yellow area in the gauge stops (not in the red area) the engine sounds like it is misfiering, if I let off the gas a little so the presure falls, it stops and continues to accelerate.

Does anyone know what the issue can be?

Btw: Does anyone know what the std turbo presure is?

Cheers
MadsP

This sounds like a classic case of detonation.

Your not supplying enough fuel for the amount of air / the charge temperature is too high from the increase in boost and causing the mixture to ignite to early.

Standard boost pressure is 7-8 psi, which would be half way.

Have you an uprated actuator or boost controller?

I would advise backing off the boost pressure.

I'm having this problem, expect my boost goes of the scale <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /devil.gif ALT=":evil">

Changing to standard actuator at weekend until the new fuel ecu hits town and then i can run more boost as per my hybrid T25 demands.

I have had the same problem and it was the sparkplugs that were bad even though they were only 1-2 month old Beru Ultra-x. I changed back to the old NGK sparkplugs that were in the engine when I bought the car and it worked fine. After that I won't use anything else than NGK.

I have only have problem with Beru products so from now on I won't buy anything with that brand it sucks.

Hey mate those are the wrong listed plugs for a 480 Turbo

either Bosch W7DC or NGK BP 6ES.

I'm pretty sure Dan used the 7ES but had problems.

Mind you, if it works use it!

plugs

Hi
Great that it worked with the NGK pluggs.

Jamo I use the BPR7ES because the swedish NGK site recomended that for 480 turbo.

But I have also been recomended BPR6ES by an autopartcompany so it depends on who you ask.

Maybe the 480 turbo don't like 4 electrode sparkplugs like the Beru Ultra-x and Bosch super 4?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub32.ezboard.com/bvolvo480.show ... Hi Ortovox

Hows that dump valve?, heh

Well i tell you why i find it strange, as the standard Volvo plugs are Bosch WRDC - the NGK listed direct replacements for these are NGK BPR6ES

<a href="http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/tech ...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub32.ezboard.com/bvolvo480.show ... oDodger at: 8/25/03 3:25 pm

The Bailey dump works perfekt <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

I don't think there's a noticible difference between using the BPR6ES and the BPR7ES because the only difference is the heat nr(6 vs 7) and it's not a bigg difference.
I've read at NGK's site that higher heat nr means that the plugs can take more heat but if the heat nr is to high the electrodes will get covered with shit and the car will missfire. But worse is it with to low heat nr then the plugs will get to hot and melt and that can damage the valves and the pistons.

That's why I use the BPR7ES and if I'm not wrong higher boost means the plugs will get hotter?

PS I checked NGK cross reference table and W7DC = BPR6ES but if you check the car models list is says BPR7ES for the 480 turbo <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub32.ezboard.com/bvolvo480.show ...
