My Baby is Back MKII

Post by Jamo » Sun Aug 17, 2003 9:57 pm

Well folks, after two weeks of hell on public transport my car has returned from it's Lincoln Holiday, and boy has it got one hell of a tan! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Installing has now been completed of the following:-

Machined and port cylinder head.

Large Inlet and Exhaust Valves.

DBS Custom reground cam with high lift and large open percentage duration.

Hybrid T25 Turbo, designed to spec by myself with uprated actuator.

New Turbo Oil inlet pipe and new gaskets all round.

MBC controller.

Saab 2.0 L Turbo Injectors.

GTX Magnatec Oil 15w/40

To Be Installled :-

Strut Brace.

Megasquirt

740 Turbo Injectors and resistor pack.

Well Due to the limitations of the standard fuel injection system the car idles a little rich and CAT stinks of more pussy than a special edition of playboy.

Unfortunatley until the remap with megasquirt is possible i have to drive the car to maybe 40-50% of its capabilites.

The new T25 actuator had to be slackened to reduce spool up because it was so violent to boost!!!

Well what about performance.

Well in a limited run before boost exceeded 14 psi whilst acceleration <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b"> the car hit 2k revs and then decided to go back to the future on my ass. I had to limit driving to no maximum of 3.5 k revs.
The turbo can be heard spooling in the car and gives a hell of kick in the limitated time you can accelerate before boost maxing out before detonation.

Nice!

There are one or two teething problems which need to be sorted.

And i have a question over the rev range as i couldn't get the car to rev freely in 5th gear when putting my foot down, but i wonder if it's to do with mapping.

all in all a good job by DBS (thanks for the putitng up with the constant questions!) and i hope megasquirt arrives soon so the full potential can be seen of the mods.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub32.ezboard.com/bvolvo480.show ... oDodger at: 8/18/03 12:28 am

It's strange but if you floor the accelerator in 5th gear the car doesnt' pull or accelerate.

Very strange indeed, but i'm having to learn to drive the car differently at the moment to control the boost. Thats a pretty impressive list u got there! wish i could A) afford to insure a turbo (being 18 its rather unlikely :P) B) afford to mod my car that much! but i agree with u public transport is pants ... many a time whilst my cars been being fixed have i nearly lost my job because buses didnt turn up etc! n e way .. in 5th gear in my ES it dosent pull at all! maybee before urs did and its just what uve done that has made it not pull? if not then does n e 1 else have this problem cos id like to find out why theres about as much acceleration in 5th gear as a stoned sloth.!

They'll charge you more (obviously!). Norwhich Union want an extra £40/year from, just for lowering the car "my first modification", as they so nicely put it. I'm hoping that subsequent modifications will be charged less, and not £40/year per mod otherwise it could get very expensive for you guys

Just letting you know, 'cause I think quite a few people here use them...

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... you do realise that would invalidate your insurance..
If you have a whack and they inspect then you might as well bend over and pucker up.
I remember helping a mate swap an engine at midnight in his Cortina cos he 'forgot' to mention he'd swapped the 1.6 for a 2.0...just before wrapping it around a lampost via a new escort..

In the biking world we are generally allowed a 5-10% power increase without an insurance adjustment, and a dyno graph is good enough, especially when rear wheel dyno readings are compared with manufacturers mythical figures.. Some bike insurance companies don't care as long as they know about what you did. Dunno about cars, but my Spit was heavily tweaked and I told them but they didn't charge more. You could try an 'annonymous' call for a first quote??
"Like the first monkeys blasted into space, sacrificing themselves for the good of mankind"

F***ing insurance ;)

Post by dragon » Fri Aug 22, 2003 10:06 am

Well, after my post the other day, I called my insurance company to tell them about my new mods and change of car reg, and I wish I hadn't bothered - not only do I have to find all manner of HP figures per mod, I need the cost of each Mod - OK, not so much of a problem, as they asked the same for the last set of mods... just got a call today they can't find any record of any costs or HP figures for the original mods either! Furthermore they specifically can't find any costs of my exhaust... of course they can't - the day I got the exhaust, I called them to tell them about it and the woman at the end said "we don't need to know the cost of it" - I wish they'd make up their friggin minds... Waiting for a fax now with a long list of what they actually want so I can sort it all at once.... What was that? The sound of DBS switching off his mobile... probbaly <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

1995 480 Turbo, Flame Red Metallic, Jacquard/Leather
