clio 197 -- 480 es

Post by avaconirl » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:48 pm

After reading so many post's of 480 turbo's being raped to put their engines into clio's or renault 5's ,i have decided to go the other way and fit a clio 2 litre into a spare 480 es that i have lying around. I do know that this is not an easy job but what the hell. The question is, are there any of our renault friends who know of any good websites that have good wiring diagrams for a clio. All help and advice will be greatfully recieved.

I should be getting the clio tomorrow. I hope to use as much of the clio's systems as possible that includes the keycard entry and ignition system as well as the abs, radio control and integrate the clio dash into the volvo dash. All this as well as fitting the engine gearbox and rear axle. This is quite a lot to do but i am sure it can be done. I hope all these changes will not offend the volvo purists. I look forward to any help and encouragement i recieve from you all. You never know Glasgow Jim might go ahead and do the diesel conversion. If there is anything i learn i will pass it on and will post pic as i go on.
It will be great to take a clio of the road to upgrade a Volvo.

Stuart,

Sounds like a great and very exciting plan, I can not wait to see the results. I'm particularly interested in how the dash mod goes, esp considering the dodgy rep of the 480's electrics.

How are all your 480's?! I'm moving to Gorey from Cork soon enough so might see ya about.

Possibly a daft question, but, is it called the 197 because it had 197BHP when new? If not how much is it supposed to have?

Good luck with the project-you will have many a interested reader!

Yes. 197 means 197 BHP.

A few of the 340 guys (inc me) are running clio engines, though all I know of are the earlier versions of that engine (F7P/R's rather than F4R's) I'm trying to remember how the engine mounts were done on my turbo, but the hardest part for us is making up an exhaust ;)

The later engines have a chain driven oil pump so might not clear the 480 sump as standard (one of our engine mounts is cast onto the sump, plus the transversness of the engine makes keeping the original pointless) but I can't remember my turbo well enough at the mo to know if you'd need to.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for that help and encoragement. I have the car in the yard and am hoping to get started over the next few weeks. Any probs with the sump or most other parts i hope will not be a problem. I know this may sound cocky but this is the type of thing that i used to do for a living. I am being ambitious with this project but as i was once told if it is built by humans we can fix it. I even hope to use the clio subframe on the volvo with any modifactions if needed. As i have said in my previous post any help from anybody will be a help and anything i will pass on with pics.
