hi here is a quote by a former member :-
Bov is quicker acting , the recirc is only for road use , it complicates plumbing matters . Also the BOV isnt ideally placed on the 480 , it should be about 6 inches away from the throttle plate .
also connect the MBC to the solenoid behind the engine on the fire wall in between the windscreen wipers. cheers felyx

Re: Hello :) , mbc, bov, gauge
ok, from what i can make out you already have a richmodded ecu. therefore you cant get anymore boost out of the t2 turbo that the engine is fitted with as stock. an mbc wil do nothing but make it run worse. also a bov just isnt recommened, when it dumps to atmosphere it confuses the ecu as it has already allowed for the recirc air so the fueling isnt correct, this could potentialy damage your engine.
Also the 480 turbo already has a boost gauge? if you want to fit an after market one just use the stock connections??
Hope this helps

Hm, this information is new to me. How could it damage the engine? I heard the stock dump valve can also damage because of the increased boost. So wich would be the best option? Stronger recirc valve instead a bov?bkf_uk wrote:also a bov just isnt recommened, when it dumps to atmosphere it confuses the ecu as it has already allowed for the recirc air so the fueling isnt correct, this could potentialy damage your engine.

Yep a stronger recirc valve is recomended a VAG (volkswagen audi ect) 710N is perfect for the job.grafi wrote:Hm, this information is new to me. How could it damage the engine? VAG Part NO. 06A145710N
This recirc valve fits the same as the volvo one but has brass internals and a slightly stronger spring allowing for the higher boost, also it's designed to fit the VAG 1.8t engines so it's a fairly close engine size as well.
I run 2 of these valves, one as the main wastegate recirc valve and i also used one to replace the poxy diaphram valve on the end of the ICV as my richmod managed to kill 3 of those in about 2 weeks. These valves cast aprox £30GBP from a volkswagen audi ect dealership new.
If you want to see how i fitted the recirc valve to relace the valve on the icv i can post some pics.
Just a qoute from a VAG website about the 710N valve
And some info about how it compares to the volvo valveThe bypass (diverter) valve is responsible for recirculating the pressurized intake air when the throttle plate is closed to prevent turbo compressor stall. The 710N bypass valve will help reduce any surging you may encounter after upgrading your car with a chip, intake, exhaust, or other horsepower parts.
This bypass (diverter) valve, known as the '710N' valve, has a 14.4 pound spring inside versus the 8.8 lb spring fitted to the volvo 400 series turbos

Is it worth to install 710N in factory condition engine (without any mods)?

I wouldnt bother fitting the 710N to a factroy standard car unless the current recirc valve is fluttering (sounds like it's "blowing off" more than once in quick sucsession) this is due to the fact that the wastegate wont open quick enough for the lower boost so may cause the turbo to stall, plus the ecu wont like it much either and may start to go into limp mode. will post a couple of pic tommorow of the modded valve, cant be botherd to take them atm due to the fact it's peeing it down with rain!

Would also love to see the pic's & know anymore info you have about the comparisons of running these 2! Also, is a Fuel Pressure Regulator a good choice?!

Re: Hello :) , mbc, bov, gauge
I would love some info on how to install the 710n valve on the end of the icv as I am trying to track down and idle problem and I broke that silly little valve whilst attempting to clean the icv?
Its that flimsy L shaped plastic connector that snapped off...grrr... I managed to saw the end of of the stub that was left and get the hose onto that but I bet that if it was brittle enough to break like that then its probably a problem anyway.
I have just started running a richmod on the car and the idle has got worse and worse...
Also, what kind of hose do I need to get to make the 710n fit?

Re: Hello :) , mbc, bov, gauge
The ICV gets its air through a hose connected to the turbo inlet, in early models it was connected after the intercooler, which turned out not to be ideal. In this hose a valve is situated, which closes at certain pressure relations between turbo inlet and inlet manifold. This valve may stick and/or not open quickly enough, only opens at its own conditions or stays open/closed under all conditions. It is easily found out if it sticks: Let the ICV breathe in the open air while closing the valve end with some cloth. Mind: The air now is unfiltered. The erratic behaviour starts mostly when going off the throttle in boost condition. Washing the valve out may help for a while.
The valve and and the plastic hose are bonded and sold as a unit.
I'm also very curious about the solution mentioned by bfk_uk: Replacing it by a recirc valve. There will be no need for a VAG-one though, the pressures are in no way related.
