Supercharging

Post by captainblammo » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:26 pm

Has anyone supercharged a 480ES with any level of success, i think now is the time that i may give it a go.

If so what would i need to replace and do to the car. And what kind of budget should i be looking at.

you can fit anything in anywhere if you try hard enough, i am looking into an electric supercharger called the CPT VTES.. .. and yes most of these are cons, but this looks like it ticks all the right boxes...

He supercharged a TURBO and it was a brutal machine, last time i met him he had scrapped the 480, but had kept the engine ect just in case he decided to have a moment of insanity and bought another 480. i think his 480 was pushing over 300bhp, tyres didnt last long from what i was told!

The VTES looks interesting, although 1.8kW and 350 Amps is a heavy load for the electric circuit.

Besides you need to get the fuelling correct.

Basically there are three options:
-change the wiring loom and ECU to turbospec (Bosch LH +EZK)
-fit a risingrate fuelpressure regulator
-fit an aftermarket ECU

I dont recon it is very cost effective to do it. I did some research about putting an Eaton M45 blower onto a B20F and my findings can be found on this forum.

Hmm the search function still dont find all the topics anymore...

If i ever would undertake alternative charging i would go the Rotrex way.
Small, easy to fit, proven technology.

A rotex or any centrifugal supercharger combines all the disadvantages of a turbo and supercharger into one product.
IMHO a no go.

it was a BMW works mini cooper supercharger with a volvo T4 turbo (got the T4 in there by getting custom engine mounts and brackets made that tikted the engine about 10degree's forward, with the MINI BMW supercharger at the front of the engine connected to custom crank pullys. cheers FELYX
