b16f to b18e, ecu problem - help needed

Post by Zeljko_M » Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:09 pm

Hi guys,
I have rebuilt B18EP engine (from 480es 1992) and installed it in my 440 (B16F 1995). I'd like to keep all the old wiring because the instalation is almost the same. The only difference is that I am using throttle body potentiometer instead throttle switch. The ECU in the car is from B16F engine, it is running on 27C256 EEPROM and MC68HCP11A1VFN processor. Now I want to extract the maps from the B18EP ECU to the newer B16F ECU. Can someone provide me with some guidelines on how to find the map and it size. I already have removed EEPROMs, and read their hex.
I have tried to start the car with the B18EP ecu but it would not start. The problem could be the pin 23 which is connected to CEM (C4) in 480 but in my 440 installation it is not connected anywhere. The throttle body on 480 had a throttle switch, but I am running it on 55mm throttle body with potentiometer.
And the third difference is pin 29 which is connected to ground on B16F installation, but not connected on B18EP ecu.

Do you have any suggestions up on this problem?

The other modifications to newly build B18EP engine are: ported and polished head, installed lighter fly wheal (from F7P engine), shorter diff in a gearbox...

Maybe the flywheel causes the problem ?
Does that flywheel have the same amount of teeth as the original one ?

Doesn't the engine run on B16F wiring loom, B16F ECU and b16F electric parts (injectors, throttle body, sensors etc.)?

There is as far as I know no Bin editors for the renix/fenix ecu.

The engine does run on b16f ecu, but there is desire for better performance... you know what I mean!
All sensors are identical, fuel injectors are identical. I am running 3.5bar fuel pump (1 bar original).

The B16F and B18EP have the same flywheel. I am using one out of F7P engine (renault clio 1.8 16V) which is about one kg lighter!
It also has the same tooth configuration.

I'll get back soon,
job is calling....
