turbo tuning, whats next?
Hi all,
My k reg 480 Turbo is finally running well!
I have a richmod that runs nicely.
I'm wondering what the next step in tuning should be?
Take stage 0 (full service etc) as a given.
I don't really want to turn the boost up any higher.
Is an exhaust system up next?

Well, -if you choose well-, first of all the sound.richj wrote:what sort of gains are there from an exhuast system?
Second, -if you choose well- a slight increase of power.
Third, -if you choose well- a nice optical tunning.

Any idea how much power a custom exhaust could give?
I have a richmod already, so guessing the extra exhaust gas needs to go somewhere.
Anyone here done this already, can provide some pointers?
I'm a little worried the off boost power will suffer.
Any suggestions of companies to do it? I'm based in the south.
I'm looking at something like

for £300 I would want some more performance

To be honest £300 for a stainless exhaust is cheap! I think if the 480 was more popular there would be companies like HKS & Mongoose charging in the region of £550+ for minimal gains.
If you could get your hands on a stainless manifold, de-cat and exhaust then i can imagine you would get a noticeable gain. Im not sure how much extra bhp i got when i put all of the above on my Vtec Prelude but the throttle response seemed allot sharper and the improved engine note made it seem faster

I got a custom stainless steel exhaust from the turbo back with a twin exit back box (one each side) from c+c exhausts in hillington glasgow for £300 with a life time guarantee.i had them build exhausts for all of my previous 6 cars. there work is amazing and if any thing go's wrong with it they fix it for free
well i don't know what type of stainless steel pipe they used but the exhaust is 2.5 inch from the turbo to the back box with no cat. the back box is mounted side way like the original one but is a straight through type and has a 2 inch pipe coming out of each side with a 3.5 inch inward rolled tip on each side. apparently the down pipe is the most important bit to get right.

.
i have a cat back system that sounds similar. i havent fitted it because there is no join to the cat but could easily be made. its been outside all winter and is still polished shiney so its propper stainless. magnet slides right off as well. maybe open to offers.
