The revcounter on my Renault has 2 wires and there is only 1 wire from the volvo bulkhead plug to go onto the revcounter. How do I connect it ???

yes.

I checked using a multimeter but neither of them seems to be an earth. Now what I'm thinking of maybe could be an earth taken off some other thing and earths only when ignition/engine is on. Don't know :?

on my volvo the single wire (think its grey/green) is a 12v square wave timed with the ignition.ive checked it with a hand oscilloscope. it traces to the back of the revcounter where the chip is. i think it just acts as a high/low signal to the chip and tracks away to earth through a pull-up resistor. dont know how the renault dash works. you could try pulsing a small current on and off to one of your wires and see if it moves the dial. try 5v to be safe.
i think they only work with the ignition on because thats where it derives the signal from.

some more info please !!!

isn't it the blue/brown wire ?

my rev counter is not connected yet as when I try to connect the blue/brown one strangely enough the fuel pump feed stops working .. so I figured out it is the wrong one!

The wiring diagrams can be found on the download page. According to the wiring diagram the pulse for the rev counter coming from the ecu is the blue/brown wire. A green/white wire is the + which it shares with the speedo.

Does that mean I should connect the blue/brown to one connection and the green/white to the other connection on the rev counter ?

Isn't one wire for the bulb and the other for the pulse on the R.rev counter?

Well it might not be any help at all but ive recently dropped a b18ft into my clio 16v and the rev counter works by taking the pink (i think) wire from the centre of the volvo engine loom multiplug to pin 8 (i think lol) on the multiplug on the back of the clocks.

Im presuming youre putting it in an r5 and therefore using the r5 clocks so will probs be different but thought this might be some help :)

I will double check on the things i am not sure about lol
