If your 480 are euro2 norm, removing the cat will produce mot failure.

Turbo I assume? Should help spool up speed. Good also if you want to remove the recirc valve.

In theory something like any car pre '93 can be cat free, as emmissions arent as stringent. Obviously UK!

YOu don't need a cat in the uk, just just need to pass a test that usually requires a cat to pass.

My LPG primera passes without one.

Pre 92 (sept) you have a massivly better chance of passing without one.

thats why im trying to find out. i wouldnt bother post 92.i think its 3.5 % co for 1991 test. not sure how close it will be to this without cat.lambda sensor should still stop it from gassing passers-by though.

As JT said, there is no legal requirement for a CAT in the UK at all, there is just the lagal requirement to pass emissions tests, and as also said, pre '91, or alternative fueled cars have much less stringent limits.

Your Lambda will work fine in the straight pipe replacement, just make sure it's sealed correctly if you are going to bodge it. Best bet is to get someone to tap/die the correct thread into the pipe, or weld a suitably sized nut onto the pipe to screw the sensor into.
