Cleaning injectors

Post by kev » Fri Feb 20, 2009 6:36 pm

Well I got my engine running but I decided to remove the injectors and have them cleaned .

They are cleaned using ultrasonics. So should be good.

I went to Volvo to cost new ones and at £80 each I decided cleaning them was the best option.

Will let you know how they perform next week.

Well I have my injectors back. They have a test report before & after.

They also replaced the filters, spacers, pintle caps and O-rings.

I have also repaired my injector loom as Volvo wanted £217 for one !The connectors were all brittle and knackered.

New connectors and some heatshrink

Connectors fitted

The whole assembly fitted to the fuel rail and the heat shield .

Will try it in the morning .

Wow what a difference !! :hopping:

Engine is fantastic .No rough idle and sounds really sweet.

Recommend having your injectors cleaned and serviced. Also cleaned the idle control valve for good measure
but it was not too bad in the first place.

Here is a pic of my moving engine

Hi Kev,

I can't see your engine moving !

I am following your diary with great interest.
You are doing a fantastic job on your car.

Three questions ....

What paint did you use on the black bits ?

What did you use to seal the clusteres and

How did you get the round profile on the sealant?

Keep the photos coming...great stuff.

Cheers

Hi Stig , Look at the alternator blur ,I know its not much.

On the engine block I used two coats of Engine Lacquer. On some brackets I used Hammerite and others black spray paint.

To seal the clusters I used Silicone sealant.

To get the round profile I used a hi-tech piece of equipment ....

My finger

Better not use sillicone sealant on steel. That stuff hardens out with the aid of acetic acid. You can tell from the nasty acetic smell. And acid doesn't mix well with steel, promotes rust! Better use some sealant that doesn´t harden out, like 3M. This stuff makes it also easier to remove the clusters when needed later on and seals much better on the long run. Sillicone gives leaks as it gets older.
