Should i put on a SAAB 9000 intercooler ???????

Post by felyx » Thu Aug 21, 2008 7:12 am

hi people i was going to see what you thought about me putting on a saab 9000 intercooler on my 1992 turbo , has richmod, i have a 9000 cooler spare and i'm bored kind of thing.

I seem to remember Rich saying it won't make much difference but i can't remember why, but i thought i would also incorporate a winter screen wash injector into the intercooler and also a beefy fan.

should start it this weekend and photo's will be taken .

cheers people

Don't bother....the 480 intercooler is the perfect size.

Go bigger and you'll get extra lag for no extra performance.

bigger intercooler is needed, when it can't handle the raised boost and heat. Next issue is where tu but the blumbing?

Under normal driving I was seeing a 15 degree celcius rise in inlet temperatures above ambient outside temperature. Try and find some research on what a good intercooler can do. If you raise boost by a large amount, change the turbo to a more suited sort as the turbo will not be stressed so much and as a result, will produce lower temepratures anyway.

my T25G ran a lot colder than the T2 with richmod. As after heavy driving the intake is realy hot with the T2, T25G held the temp nice and cool. Still trying to find a good new turbo, but still no luck.

cheers boys as always for the logic , i live in the UK and regularly get about 19 mpg at 1000 miles a week etc ( no i don't teleport to germany) . i did put out an optomistic ad in parts wanted for a t2/t25 hybrid.

but again thanks, as for the logical mind the the blatantly (like DUHH) avoides me now and again .

I have the hot snail/adaptor/elbow required to bolt a t25 on. If i sell it i suppose i'd be offering 1st refusal to mr greenalf though.

15 degrees is very low....thats a more than effective intercooler. You only need look at the skyline's standard intercooler to see that the 480s is very generous indeed.

A big IC creates lag because you have to compress the large volume of air in it before the inlet sees any of that pressure.

Like with a radiator...its not the case of bigger is better...more that you want the RIGHT size.

Sure a small turbo will make a lot of heat if it runs to the end of it's compressor map curve, and a correctly selected turbo will not.
