Do the search on cams. It was mentioned before, but Cat cams in Belgium and Dbilas in Germany are examples.
You have to look for Renault F2N/ F3N/ etc. cams.

Im sure Piper and Kent can make a cam too. Just mail them.

http://www.catcams.com/index.htm these list loads of different cams. They even say wheather or not you will need to uprate anything else

As said before in the catalogues of catcams and dbilas you must look in the Renault part (8V SOHC F series). The B17 and B23 on these websites are supposed to be Volvo redblocks found in RWD swedish Volvo's (140,240 etc.) So cams for these engines wont fit in a Volvo 400-series B20F. I believe Volvo also could the 2litre in the Volvo 140 a B20F so be ware for the confusion! Since it is not the same engine.

Most of these Renault sport cams (for the F-series) were developed for the Formula Renault and Renault 5 GTE (german?)cup back in the eighties, I think.

Also a cam of a Volvo B18E might be intresting, but is very hard too find.

I dont believe that on this forum somebody actually experienced a cam change on a N/A (normally aspirated) engine.

For the money of a billet cam you also can put a second hand turbo engine + Rpruen mod in it. A reprofiled cam is be cheaper.

I would prefer the following tuning order for a B20F:

Stage 1:
-K&N replacement filter + Cold air bigger intake.
-480 Turbo CSC sports exhaust system (or equivilant) optional I would remove the cat.

Stage 2:
-Bosch 4 bar fuel pressure regulator (for enrichment in open loop and better mixing of the fuel)
-advanced Hall sensor for advanced ignition

Stage 3:
-gasflowing+porting of manifolds (intake and exhaust) and throttle body.
-portmatching of the manifolds
Optionally you could look for a nice 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.

Stage 4:
-gasflowing+porting of the cylinder head
-uprated camshaft
optionally a remapped ECU would be ideal, but expensive.

Stage 5:
-Forced induction or an engine swap (turbo or 16V)

Stage 2 till 4 could be in non nummerical (exp: first stage 4 and then 2) order, but that's up to you.

I have no experience in fitting other cams in the B20F, but the cams of the Renault F2 - F3 (1721-1784-1794-1998cc) engines should fit.

This means cat cams 5500825, 5500811, 5500818 and 5500822 should fit.

Cat cams says that only 5500825 fits without modifcation to the pistons
and ECU.

However a different cam will give a different vacuum and will require different timing of the ignition. These differences should be altered in the ECU.

I have an aftermarket camshaft in my es 2.0 the guy I got it off told me it was based on a renault item that had been re-ground by kent cams :?
not sure how acurate this is but i know my engine now ticks over a bit rougher and certainly picks up after 3000rpm like a rocket on speed :hopping:

Is it true that a cam out a nonturbo motor will perform better in a turboengine? If it is, are there special things to pay attention for? Otherwise i will get a cam out a 1.7 engine en place it in my 1.7 turbo engine.. :D

The father and I compared the B18E cam from my 86' ES with the B20F from 198 and it didn't look promising. You might get around 0.18mm extra lift but the cross section of the lugs were pretty different. I think we decided that the valves wouldn't open anywhere near as long with the B18E cam so you'd probably have gas flow issues. i.e. the exhaust valve would close that much sooner that it probably wouldn't aid the intake much at all with the bigger cylinders of the B20f.

Ettore/Esta if you're serious and know exactly what you're doing I might be persuaded to loan the B18E cam to one of you in exchange for a similar weight in gold ;)

Hey eEm: thanks for your offer, but since then i have had to make a few decisions regarding my finances and my insatiable need for fast cars...and have made the decision to put any spare money on a Jag and not a modded engine, as this may also decrease the value of my 480
(has taken a lot of will power, as i am under the theory that you do only live once and should do what the hell you want with your car but if i am only gonna live once, then i want to own that Jag ASAP and this is the best way to go about it :( ) But thanks ;)

Thanks for the offer, but it seems that this cam isn't suitable for a Nissan Micra... :lol:

What do you actually mean by cross section of the lugs? The width of the cam?

If you could measure both cams with a dial, I would be delighted :wink:

You're probably right, a B18E cam wouldn't fit in a micra, not with all your makeup, handbag, tampons, perfume.......high heels.... :rofl:

But seriously, the width of the cam yes. I had the measurements written down somewhere, I shall don my dear-stalker and prime my pipe and get back to you.
