As i understand it dump valves on our size turbo do bugger all as they spool up fairly rapidly anyway. I'm under the impression that dump valves are best used on larger turbos to reduce turbo lag, however I'm no expert by any means.

Welcome to the forum! :)
there is already a dump valve fitted as standard on the car, if you mean an atmospheric one that makes more noise, i am not sure how well they work on the 480 because of the maf. however someone who has tried it may be able to say otherwise..
from what i understand, the standard bosch dump valve is more than man enough to handle boost up to quite a high level, and its suposed to be there so no problems trying to bodge things to make them work.

loads of threads about the pros and cons of re-circ (standard DV on 480) versus the BOV type atmospheric DV......fitting wise, is easy, straight swap pretty much.

some people say theyve seen a little difference for the worse, some say not much change.....its one of those suck it and see things.....try one, if it feels good still, then youre probably ok....if not, swap back and sell the atmosdv.

bailey dvs seem to be a pretty good choice....

Hello there,

Best bet is to replace the standard Bosch recirc. valve with the one that goes in the Audi TTs. I went to the local (well, within 10 miles) Audi dealer and picked one up for under £24 - it's a direct swap and is exactly the same apart from having brass internals and being able to withstand much higher pressure. Forgotten what the part number is, it's on the forum somewhere, but it ends in 710N.
It actually DOES make a difference, is much smoother and more responsive, and obviously holds boost far better than the standard one. Of course mine was shredded when I replaced it, so of course it was going to be better than that!

I would have to say stick with a recirc type.

The audi upgrade type is better built, and will take more boost as mentioned above.

Having tried both, there is no change when replacing a working standard part with the Audi one. The only time it will improve things is if your standard recirc is not working properly.

It is beyond me why people want those noisy ones on their cars. As my 14 year old son says, it makes the car sound like it is sneezing.
