correct but what makes everyone think the 1.7 is such a gutless engine that it cant produce enough puff to turn the turnbine?
the faster an engine goes the more it produces, thats why a hybrid would be best a t25/28 compressor with a t2 turbin meaning it would spool up like a t2 but produce the power and lower temps of a t25/28

i mean there are so many factors to why i aint getting the same top end (heavier car, my bonnet being fucked and now shutting right and causing lift and alot of drag, the fact i think im running very fuel rich) all these things need checked also a nice rr session will find anythign else.
i have alot of faith in this engine and me and another PMT m8 are looking to mew manifolds, throttle plates, turbos (and converter plates) and other nice moddifications to change this engine into what volvo never intended.

well your motor will always be slower at top speed , since frontal area will be bigger , and i dont care what you say about CD figures they are a dimensionless ratio , frontal area plays a big part youll find the 480 a lot smaller than the laguna , jamo has a T25 compressor housing which is easily good enough for 250 hp , even if the exhaust housing will become restrictive and EBR will become excessive .

hehehe this is/was gettign worse, hardly any power i needed but the boost guage was going up to the red zone.
so took here home did a compression test (12 bar+ all round)
and checked the plug all seemed good, little black but nothing excessive.
and then noticed that there was a small cut/knick in the hose that goes from the boost hose between the inlet manifold and the intercooler and the idle control valve, i took the hose off and blew in it and was able to make it hiss with very little effort so im guessing that when the hose is pressurised it would have no problem loosing some prassure through that. so i repaired it and rebuilt the engine back up making sure everything was nice and tight. started her up and she idled smoother, ive not been back out in it yet but ill let you know if this has cured the problem ive been having.

personally, i would rip off the turbo, and stick on a blower (supercharger)
did this with an s40, didnt change the max hp much (couple of hp better), but performace wise was redhot, instant power, as it doesnt rely on the exhaust to get the turbine up to speed.
If you think about one, get one with twin trefoil, or cinqfoil rotors inside....cant remember name of website, but its something like volvo automotive parts?
the kits complete with everything you need to convert turbo to super.
Could the N/A 480 be changed to put on a turbo?
mines a 480s 17i N/A engine.....what would be required to turbo it?
would it b a case of 'bolting one on?'

well , im glad it works ,
i wont get into the which is more efficient turbo/supercharge etc .
you could quite easily supercharge a turbo one since all the plumbing and ecu could handle 10 psi , if you have na then youll have to muck about with the fuelling and timing , since it wont be correct for the engine .

you wont make any extra power , it will just drive different , with no lag , but a T2 is hard to beat on spool . My reasoning was that the ecu can cope eith the extra demands of the engine so using a turbo ecu , would make life a lot easier , but why not just buy a turbo .
And if you havent been in a turbo with a boost controller , the you are missing out .

Not sure about an MBC, i'm more keen now i've reallised the engine doesn't have wet liners........why doesn't it? I thought it would have being renault! Does the efficiency go through the floor? - plus if i floor 4th i get to the end of the yellow as it is.
As for the transplant i'd imagine one of the factors for king_b was that you can pick up a 480TURBO for hardly any money.
Mine was GIVEN to me, and i've never seen one in better nick.
- did need alround discs and pads tho (and 2 pipes)
