440 in Cambridge

Saw a rather tired 440 a few days ago.

American driver loved it. It was his first car in the UK when he arrived 8 years ago and he has put 80,000 miles on it.

It has been reliable he said.

It was incredibly rusty and wont be getting MOTd in May‎. Shame, but it does look pretty fubared in the rear arch department, extending up the sills.

I think it has done it's service.

It was only afterwards that I realised that it looked like the one in Practical Classics this month. ‎

Replacement metal is available, trouble is most people won't invest the money to keep the wheel arches tidy, because it's cheaper to throw the car away and find another. Until they're all gone :(

I wonder if I should put a copy of Practical Classics under his wiper and a note suggesting that he advertises there or eBay when he is done with it?‎

440 and 460 do appear on a regular basis on Ebay and Auto Trader and it is not rare to find them with very low mileage, auto box and no more than 2 owners from new. They were v often driven by elders and well looked after.
