It wasn't me you spotted Rachel - I've not been out in it for over a week.

Awaiting the arrival of something to try and tackle the leak first before I hit the road again as the back of the car is stripped out.

I'm still amazed there is such a group of active enthusiasts in the UK - there aren't many of them left surely!

Hi PJP

Yeh, after another look at the dash cam vid we where fairly sure it wasn't you, it you a K reg, though.

I believe there are very few about, just check the "How Many are Left" site. Last look there were about 20 odd Turbos registered  Would be nice to see how many 2 tones are around. I've seen this forum go from amazing to pretty dull, but recently it has picked up again, thanks to the addition of some new and proactive members! (you know who you are!! ) I'm very proud to still be part of the group of survivors, and I will stay as I won't be selling my 480......EVER! :hopping:

Welcome to the group :D I hope to see you and the 480 at the next meet.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next meet!

My biggest regret it not getting one sooner really - I did have one a dozen or so years ago and I've been 'looking' on and off since before taking the plunge.

I'm hoping that one day a Celebration or GT model will work it's way into my life but for now, the two-tone will do just fine!

I'm still amazed at what I'm coming across when I look for things on here - I was after some advice on whether LED's are a worthwhile swap for the DLR and low and behold, loads of posts came up when I've searched.

Thanks again.

Hiya PJP,
I'll be organising several meets next year, I've put you on the list for a PM (private message) nearer the time so you will get an email alert.
Good luck with the two tone, it's a rare car and well worth looking after. :D

I know how you feel Rachel, I've had my red dipstick 2 litre since 2001 and that's also going nowhere without me!! Not many red dipstick engines left on the road and the bottom end grunt is phenominal.

You may have found my posts but I would say that provided you get the correct fitting and type and depending on the age of your car be prepared to lose the front bulb failure warning they will save your lenses so are a god send.

Would you happen to have an LED you wpuld recommend? I'd scared myself off them having read issues with the pop-ups not working etc. As you say, I've already had the interior of the casing melt it seems so anything I can do to stop it worsening would be appreciated.
I was unsure how LED would work when they dim down once the popups come on.
As I say, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
:D

when the lights 'dim down' that is because they are 'officially' 20W DLR and 4W side lights, no idea why they didn't just use 'normal' stop/tail rather than fog & somat .. . .

I certainly did and I wish I had brought spares at the time as they had been tested on the 480 pop-ups, were the correct fitment and came in warm white or bright white. Sadly when I decided to buy some spares recently his website had closed and I’ve not seen him on here for years.

However discussion on the relation with bulbs and pop-ups is ongoing and may be down to when your car was built as to whether it has an effect.

As Alan has said they are an unusual bulb (21/4w BAZ 15d) however I think it is more the fitment (BAZ as abused to BAY a normal stop/tail bulb) and I can’t see why a 21/5w BAZ 15d bulb would not be fine and I would assume be easier to find as an LED replacement.

Basically BAZ 15d and BAY 15d have the retaining pins in different places.

*****EDIT*****

Actually if you search for “21/4W BAZ15D LED” they do seem to be available.

My car when I purchased it had 21/5w BAY15D standard bulbs jammed into the holders and I think this could have contributed to the melting.

Welcome PJP - sorry for the slow reaction - and I look forward to meeting you and your car at a meet soon! I always liked the two-tone although I have never owned one myself.

The correct DRL bulbs (which are exactly as Alan and eye of ra have identified) were, certainly until recently, one of the very few things still available from Volvo (same bulbs were in 200s, 700s and 900s at least). I have always bought mine from there as they seem to last better. That said, it's been a while since I have needed one and given the fact that even things like spark plugs are now NLA, I wouldn't like to promise anything!
