Spotted a two-tone on our trip up to Scotland from Cambridge. I was in the C6 but gave a beep and a wave anyway.

Well, at least someone is enjoying the car!

Since no-one's said anything I take it no-one on here bought it?

Well

Whoever knows the original seller could ask him/her to get in touch with the show which in turn could get in touch with the new owner and let him/her know of our existence........

Just thinking out loud here :)

Hi All,
I'm new to this so bear with me!
I've been doing numerous bits of research for my 480 and came across this - I remember the journey back from picking it up and was wondering why someone was flashing me and pointing - in fact, I was pretty sure my lights had failed at the time!
You were right about the 480 - it was the one on sale from the TV production company - I decided to take the plunge as I've been looking at them for an age. I owned one many years ago and had nothing but problems with it but it was the one car I never regretted buying despite this.
I'm going to have a few questions I'm sure so perhaps you can steer me in the right direction in terms of who to ask and how to go about it?
Thanks in advance - I'm already thinking ahead of hoping one of the 'meets' is within easier driving distance as it would be great to meet other fans.

Hello and welcome to the club! We were hoping the new owner would join - I'll be seeing the previous owner to the TV company on Monday, he was so sad to part with his baby but his family and dogs meant it was just too impractical. He was very pleased it went to the TV people rather than someone who might neglect it or worse.
You will find all the help you need on here (apart from coming up against the dreaded 'unobtanium'). If you do make it to a meet you'll find a friendly and entertaining bunch of like-minded enthusiasts who will all be pleased to meet you and to see the car 'in the metal'.

I had to laugh when I read your reply - 'unobtanium' ... I think I'm experiencing that already!

I've got the dreaded 'leak' in the rear and from what I can tell its the rear light clusters playing up. Sadly, they've been partly siliconed before and despite my best attempt to remove it and price the lens away, I've stopped fearing it may crack so I'm back with the thought of having to use some sealant of some form which is a shame. I'll be looking more throughout the forum as I know there is variety of stuff posted.

I'll certainly try my best to look after her so I hope the previous owner can rest easy. My time is also very limited with various family and work commitments so I'm hoping it won't become too much of a constant battle to maintain as in only 600 miles or so I'm aware of a few things that need further attention.

Once again, thanks for the posts - hopefully I'll make it to a meet in due course.

If your lights have been siliconed in like mine it may not be the lights that are leaking. The following is sometimes why the lights get blamed when they aren’t actually leaking.

The Red arrow is where the water comes in either because the seal is leaking or the wiring is cracked and water gets in (very Common), it could also be the tailgate hinge seals the holes of which are hiding behind the yellow arrow (not so common).

Once inside it travels along the gully indicated by the Green arrows till it reaches the corner it then enters a box section indicated by the Blue arrow. The box section turns at the bottom and the water drips onto the top of the light housing which then drips off the bottom of the light housing and onto the plate at the bottom and into the boot.

Image

If the car is flat it will actually run the other way because the hole is more on the passenger side but as the car moves or is parked on a slope it will travel in either/both directions.

Apologies that there is a few days between me responding.

The responses are HUGELY helpful though and massively appreciated.

It's quite an eye opener and suggests I need to look wider at the potential cause - I was in the boot at the weekend with my wife using the hose and found the water coming through roughly where you have indicated with the blue arrow. It's coming through much more since I've tried to removed some silicone however which suggests the lights are still at least partly to blame.

The silicone had been applied pretty poorly in fairness - I'm reluctant to try taking the cluster off for fear of damage so the intention is to fully dry behind the cluster and reseal with silicone along the top to prevent ingress. From there I could perhaps work backwards to try and pin point it...

Previously the tailgate was replaced so I'm also going to look around the wiring grommet to see if anything is obvious. I'm not sure the rear de-mister is working actually so I'll consider that also. I'm hoping it will be a fuse (that goes for the seat warmers also!).

I had never even heard of Captain Tolleys creep and cure - has anyone else used it?

Again everyone, thanks for the help. I hope to get better at this soon as I'm aware I should probably post these questions in different areas of the forum.

It's quite clever - Imagine a super thinned down silcone sealant, that sets and expands slightly once exposed to air.

It means that, in theory at least, your can dribble it in the suspect area and it'll find and seal the leak.

To quote the famous supermarket - "every little helps"
