Many dead 480's at Lake's volvo (photos)

So, I went to Lake's today for just a rear speaker loom. The 480 destruction is almost complete, as you can see from the pictures. There is a squashes red M-reg also but you can only see it if you climb on top of of the silver Turbo car.

Sad to see and Lake's isn't really the place to go for 480 bits now I don't think. Always worth a look if you are nearish of course. ‎

Still has oil pressure gauge on engine for aux. gauges and good dashboard panel (crack at corner but all screws and brackets were present and went in to clip nuts)

I should add, that most of the "useful" bits are gone from all of them.
There's another one you may have missed - It's near the red one and almost inaccessible due to Knot weed, but it actually still has rear light clusters in it! However, before anyone gets too excited, They're glued into place and are both cracked where someone has already had a go at removing them.

Yeah, we were at Lakes recently buying bits for our 850 so of course I was inspecting every 480 I could find and it wasn't pretty. Apart that is from a smart white S that was parked in front of the shop. When I asked about parts from it I was informed that it wasn't being broken as it was worth £3k.........

They have a VERY odd business model.....

Have told them they need to sell that White ES ASAP (it needs a window, which they have) but its been there, not moving for ages.

They way they run the Yard is Bizarre - There's so much valuable scrap (as in, real value, not just value to enthusiasts) lying around. V70 aluminum subframes would weigh in for a small fortune!
No sense to the way the cars are stacked or organised.

However, I genuinely love the place, as I've very found memories of "real" scrapyards. I suspect they are running the place out of habit, rather than a need for profit.

Used to go there when we lived down in High Wycombe, so many years (13 plus?) since I have visited Lakes. Those recent photos suggest it has just carried on as it looked set to do - a greater jumble of cars, all gradually being reclaimed by nature. As Jeff says, an odd way to run things...

Anyway, from the 480 perspective, all very sad and certainly nothing to celebrate a frenchfries so aptly points out!

I've been to Lakes again today looking for some parts.

I'm sorry to report that they've cleared hundreds of cars. The only 480's that‎ are left are the red F-reg car and the maroon Celebration and they are both very squashed.  The Celebration now has another can on top of it and the red one is like it is pictured above.

Good news though, I did manage to retrieve a CO potentiometer from the early car though which will go to the Launch Car in Southampton. ‎

What about the hidden black one? Was bottom of a stack of three, think it had s40’s on top of it?

At least get the bits out that are specific to RHD cars. Because health and safety regulations usually prohibit dumpster diving, so if there's still salvageable parts on the car, get them off. Windscreen wipers, dash, ventilation controls, instrument clusters, those are specific to the UK market and without a proper source of spare parts, not available.

Good idea Brinkie. ‎

I'm afraid I didn't see the hidden one. It may still be hidden‎. Basically, there are still a few cars to the left of the entrance gate but there is absolutely nothing in the middle! The very dense stack on the far right is still there. They say they got rid of something like 260 cars I think.
