Green Book Archive

The idea for this thread is to collect together as many of the original Volvo Green Books as possible for the 480 - there are a few available for download on the main site and some others in various locations around the internet, but it would be nice to have them all listed in a central location. If anyone is unaware of them, they are the books that Volvo technicians would have had back in the day and go into incredible detail on virtually every aspect of the car. Pretty much the extreme far end of the spectrum relative to a Haynes manual.

James has kindly lent me his blue folder and I'm going to have a go at scanning in as much of it as possible for posterity.
books in the folder are as follows:

Section 0: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Specifications, 1986-
Section 1: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Volvo Service Program, 1990
Section 2: Reconditioning, B18E/F/FT, 1986-
Section 2: Design/Function, B18F/FT, 1987-
Section 2: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Fuel System (Fenix) B18E/FP/B20F
Section 3: Design/Function, Electrical System, 1986-
Section 3: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Electrical System, 1986-
Section 3: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Wiring Diagrams, 1986-89
Section 4: Design/Function, Power Transmission, 1986-
Section 4: Reconditioning, Gearbox, 1986-
Section 4: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Power Transmission, 1988-
Section 5: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance,Section 5: Design/Function, ABS, 1987-
Section 5: Fault Tracing/Repairs/Maintenance, Brakes, 1987-
Section 5-6-7, Design/Function, Brakes/Suspension,Steering/Springs, 1986-

I've scanned in the ABS design/function book as a test, right now it's just a standard PDF but I might have a go at making it searchable. It's in full colour and relatively high quality and clocks in at about 40MB, but with modern broadband speeds hopefully that's acceptable. It's a lot of pages to scan but I'll see what I can do (if anyone wants any specific sections done first then let me know), and if anyone has any other books then please do link them here and once we've got all (or most) we can ask a moderator to clean the thread up a bit :)

Brilliant! I have all that stuff in Dutch, could scan the whole lot (I already scanned some of them & put them in a dropbox to share for anyone), but it wouldn't make much sense to non-Dutch readers.
I have webspace available should the need arise.

Can Daniel add it to the main website as he has already provided us with a few Green Books and a parts catalogue?

The Trainee manual is now scanned, But I do not know how to make a link for it on this site, if anyone wants to have a look.

You can put it into a Dropbox storage for anyone to view, or share it from a Google drive.

That training book is very interesting and reminds how innovative the 480 was and how it is such a pleasure to drive. I have done a couple of good trips in mine recently and it has been as comfortable as any modern car and can still give driver pleasure after all these years.

It can cover hundreds of miles‎ with the limit being me, not than the car, and I can still nail it all the way through the rev range and throw it through corners and have a huge smile of satisfaction on my face.

I was particularly interested in the few appendix pages about early B18E troubles and I will be checking my ECU and flywheel sensor at some point.

I hired a DS once off a guy who loved them. He pointed that basically the DS was his 'everything' car and that he didn't need any other car‎ for any other duties. I could see what he meant after a week with it and I feel the same about the 480, it's bloody brilliant.
